Chapter 4 - The Will Unveiled

Everyone observed the old chauffeur with profound surprise. Whispers erupted like a flock of birds taking flight. The corporate rivals of the Montes family leaned in closer, sensing a massive scandal, while the family members stood frozen in shock. Don Ernesto simply stood there, his eyes downcast, a tear escaping and running down the deep wrinkles of his cheek. He knew what was in the envelope, but he didn't know Alejandro had put it in his official legal will.

The notary cleared her throat, adjusting her glasses as she began to read the typed words of the late billionaire.

“'If you are listening to this letter, it means that I am no longer here to speak for myself,'” Elena read, reproducing the powerful, yet weary tone of Don Alejandro. “'To my children, I leave my material wealth, my properties, my shares in the corporation, and the financial security they have enjoyed their entire lives. I have provided for you well beyond what is necessary.'”

Julián let out a small breath of relief, but his satisfaction was short-lived as Elena’s voice shifted to a deeply emotional, solemn tone.

“'But to the man who stood with me when absolutely no one else did... I leave something far more valuable. I leave my deepest, eternal gratitude, and the true legacy of my life.'”

Julián slowly lowered his gaze, his arrogance faltering for the first time. The words felt like a direct slap to his pride. He looked at Ernesto, who was now trembling slightly, holding the manila envelope as if it were a sacred relic.

The notary continued reading, her voice echoing off the cold marble walls. Don Alejandro’s letter began to recount a history that the younger generation had completely forgotten—or perhaps, had chosen to never learn. The document detailed the dark, gritty origins of the Montes empire, long before the billions, the mansions, and the high-society galas existed. It was a story of survival, loyalty, and a debt that money could never truly repay.
