Chapter 5 - The Glass Shattered at 2 AM: How the Innocent Waitress Became the Mob Boss’s Shield

The attack didn't come with a warning.
It came at 2:14 AM with the sound of a helicopter roaring past the windows, followed instantly by the shattering of the penthouse’s reinforced glass.
Chloe jolted awake as the alarm system shrieked.
Her bedroom door kicked open.
Dominic was there, a rifle in his hands, his eyes wild and dark.
"Get down!" he roared.
Automatic gunfire ripped through the drywall above her bed, shredding the headboard into splinters.
Chloe screamed, hitting the floor just as Dominic returned fire into the hallway.
"Leo! Status!" Dominic shouted into a comms piece on his collar.
"Breach on the roof," Leo’s voice crackled back. "Six men. Heavy armor."
"We're moving to the panic room," Dominic yelled over the gunfire.
He grabbed Chloe by the back of her shirt, dragging her out of the bedroom and into the smoky corridor.
The penthouse was a war zone.
Men in tactical gear were pouring down the floating staircase.
Dominic pushed Chloe behind a massive stone pillar, firing precise, calculated shots. Two men dropped.
"Stay behind me!" he ordered.
But as he leaned out to fire again, a shot echoed from a different angle.
Dominic grunted, a spray of red mist exploding from his side.
He stumbled, dropping to one knee.
"Dominic!" Chloe screamed.
The tactical shooter adjusted his aim, preparing to finish the mafia boss.
Chloe didn't think.
She grabbed a heavy brass sculpture off a decorative pedestal and hurled it with all her strength.
It smashed into the shooter's helmet, throwing his aim off just as his gun fired.
The bullet shattered the marble next to Dominic's head.
Leo appeared from the smoke, his massive shotgun roaring, clearing the rest of the hallway in three deafening blasts.
"Boss is hit!" Leo yelled, sprinting toward them.
"I'm fine," Dominic hissed, clutching his bleeding side.
He looked at Chloe, his breathing ragged.

"You just saved my life again, Waitress."
"Stop talking and get up," Chloe cried, pulling his heavy arm over her shoulder. "We need to hide."
