Chapter 9 - The Trap Was Set at Midnight: How the Waitress Outsmarted Boston’s Deadliest Crime Syndicate

The plan was reckless, brilliant, and entirely Chloe's idea.
"They want you dead because you control the port," Chloe had reasoned, pointing at a map on Dominic's desk. "So, you give them the port. Temporarily."
"I don't surrender," Dominic had growled.
"It's not a surrender. It's bait."
Now, at midnight, the abandoned shipping yard at Pier 41 was drenched in fog and freezing rain.
Dominic stood under the yellow glow of a single streetlamp, entirely alone.
He wore a dark overcoat, his hands casually in his pockets, waiting.
From the shadows, five black SUVs rolled into the yard, forming a semi-circle around him.
Doors opened, and twenty heavily armed men stepped out, led by Don Rossi himself—a vicious man with a scarred face and a cruel smile.
"Moretti," Rossi called out. "I hear you're short an uncle. And a penthouse window."
"I brought the transfer papers for the South Port, Rossi," Dominic said, his voice carrying over the sound of the rain. "You win."
Rossi laughed, stepping forward to take the envelope Dominic held out.
"You've gone soft, Dominic. Your father would have died before handing this over."
"My father was predictable," Dominic said softly. "I'm not."
Rossi opened the envelope.
There were no transfer papers inside.
There was only a single, perfectly crisp Tarot card.
The Emperor.
Rossi looked up, confusion twisting into rage. "What is this?"
"It means you're standing on rigged ground," Dominic whispered.
High above them, perched on the rusted shipping cranes, Leo and ten of Dominic’s best snipers switched on their laser sights.
Twenty red dots suddenly painted the chests and foreheads of Rossi and his men.
"Drop the guns," Dominic ordered, the absolute authority of the city echoing in his voice. "Or die in the mud."
Rossi sneered, his hand twitching toward his weapon.
"You won't kill us all. It'll start a war the feds can't ignore."
"I don't have to kill you all," Dominic said smoothly. "I just have to kill you."
The red dot on Rossi's forehead pulsed.

Slowly, furiously, Rossi unbuckled his holster and let his gun fall into a puddle. His men followed suit.
The empire had been secured without a single shot fired.
