Chapter 6 - I Slipped My Hands Under the Mafia Boss’s Shirt to Stop the Bleeding—What He Whispered Changed Everything

The panic room was buried deep inside the core of the building, reinforced with steel and lined with medical supplies.
Leo locked the heavy vault door, the chaotic sounds of the invasion instantly cutting off.
"I have to clear the lower floors," Leo said, racking his shotgun. "Keep pressure on the wound. Don't open this door for anyone but me."
"Leo, wait!" Chloe pleaded, but the giant was already gone through the secondary exit.
She turned back to Dominic.
He was slumped against the steel wall, his skin pale and slick with cold sweat.
"Take my shirt off," he ordered, his voice tight with pain.
Chloe’s hands shook as she unbuttoned his ruined dress shirt, pulling it back to reveal a jagged, bloody tear along his ribs.
"It's a through-and-through," she said, her voice trembling as she remembered the basic first aid she'd learned in the hospital waiting rooms. "The bullet didn't hit anything vital, but it's bleeding fast."
She grabbed a trauma pad from the medical kit and pressed it hard against his side.
Dominic violently hissed, his head falling back against the wall.
"Sorry, I'm sorry," she whispered, tears finally spilling over her cheeks.
"Don't apologize for doing what needs to be done," he ground out.
His hand came up, wrapping around her wrist. His skin was burning hot.
"Why do you cry for me?" he asked softly, his dark eyes locking onto hers. "I kidnapped you. I forced you into this."
"Because I don't want anyone to die," she sobbed, pressing harder on the wound. "Not even a monster like you."
A faint, bitter smile touched his lips.
"I am a monster, Chloe. You're right to fear me."
"I don't fear you," she blurted out.
It was the truth. In the blood and the terror, the Emperor card flashed in her mind. He was dangerous, yes. But he was her shield.
Dominic stared at her for a long, silent moment.
May you like
He reached up, his bloody thumb brushing a tear from her cheek.
"That makes you the most dangerous person in this room, mia cara."
