Chapter 10 - The Turning Point

Rachel backed away from the window, her whole body shaking with uncontrollable panic as the reality of her sister’s abduction sank in.

“I have to go to them,” Rachel sobbed, turning toward the door.

“If I walk out of the gates and give myself up, they’ll let Sarah and the baby go.”

Margaret rolled her chair forward with surprising speed, intercepting Rachel before she could reach the handle.

“Listen to me, child,” Margaret commanded, her blind eyes fixed on Rachel’s face with fierce, unshakeable strength.

“If you walk out of these gates alone right now, you aren't saving your sister.”

“You are simply handing the enemy two hostages instead of one.”

“Mason will not let your family die.”

Before Rachel could answer, the door swung open and Mason stepped back into the room, his face etched with dark, lethal fury.

He had heard the tail end of their conversation through the intercom system linked to the hallway.

“You’re not going anywhere, Rachel,” Mason said, closing the distance between them in three long strides.

“How did they find her?” Rachel wept, clutching her bandaged wrist.

“Arthur Vance had backup servers outside the estate,” Mason explained, his voice hard as steel.

“When he realized we locked him down, his handlers activated a secondary cell in the city to track down anyone connected to you.”

“They think they can use your family to force my hand.”

Mason reached out and gripped Rachel firmly by her shoulders, forcing her to look directly into his eyes.

“Listen to me, Rachel,” Mason said, every word weighted with absolute, lethal certainty.

“I built this security network to protect the people under my roof.”

“Your sister and your niece are under my roof now, whether they are inside this estate or being held by my enemies.”

“I am taking an assault team into the city within ten minutes.”

“By sunrise, your family will be sitting safely in this very room.”

Rachel stared into his fierce, unyielding gaze, seeing the terrifying power of the Bellini empire turned entirely toward her protection.

“Can you really bring them back safely?” Rachel whispered.

“I don't lose things that belong to my people, Rachel,” Mason replied, turning on his heel toward the door.

“Lock the doors behind me, Mother.”

“And keep her safe until I return.”CHAPTER 11 — The Strike in the City

The rain over downtown Syracuse fell in sheets of gray steel, blurring the neon signs of abandoned industrial warehouses.

Mason Bellini’s armored convoy slid silently into the alley behind Sector Four without turning on its headlights.

Four tactical vehicles blocked both ends of the dead-end street before the syndicate guards even realized they were surrounded.

Mason stepped out of the lead SUV, his dark wool coat snapping in the freezing wind.

He wore a tactical vest over his black shirt, his fingers resting casually on the grip of his suppressed submachine gun.

Behind him, eight elite operators moved with silent, lethal efficiency, melting into the shadows of the loading dock.

Inside the dilapidated office on the second floor, two cartel enforcers were smoking cheap cigarettes while watching a fuzzy security monitor.

They thought they held all the cards because a terrified maid had accidentally seen a ledger.

They had no idea they were sitting directly in the crosshairs of a man who owned half the state’s judicial infrastructure.

A muffled thud echoed from the ground floor as the heavy steel side door was breached with a hydraulic wedge.

The first enforcer stood up, drawing his pistol, but before his finger could wrap around the trigger, the office door flew off its hinges.

Flashbang grenades detonated with blinding white brilliance and a deafening concussion that shook the dust from the rafters.

Mason stepped through the smoke, his movements calm, ruthless, and precise.

In less than three seconds, both enforcers were disarmed, zip-tied, and pinned face-down against the concrete floor.

Mason walked past them without a second glance, kicking open the inner storage room door.

Sarah Evans sat tied to a wooden chair, her eyes squeezed shut, her body trembling with terror as she clutched her infant daughter tightly against her chest.

“Sarah,” Mason said, his voice dropping into a calm, steady register so as not to frighten the baby further.

Sarah opened her eyes, blinking against the harsh light, staring up at the tall, intimidating man in tactical gear.

“Who... who are you?” she sobbed, her voice cracking with fear.

“I am Rachel’s employer,” Mason answered, stepping forward and slicing through the nylon ties with a combat knife.

“You’re safe now.”

“We’re taking you home.”
