Chapter 9 - The Emergency Board Session

By 11:00 AM, the conference room on the second floor of the administration building had been transformed into a pressure cooker of political survival and institutional damage control.
The polished oak table was surrounded by the five members of the Oakridge School Board, all of whom looked like they had just been informed of an impending natural disaster.
Principal Thomas sat at the far end of the table, sweating profusely as he tried to explain away the indefensible timeline of complaints that had been systematically buried under his watch.
At the opposite end of the room sat Mrs. Carter, flanked by a union-appointed legal representative who was furiously whispering advice into her ear.
And sitting quietly in the center of the visitor’s gallery, flanked by his legal guardian and a local independent journalist, was Dylan.
He was dressed in a clean, ironed button-down shirt, sitting tall and upright, his posture entirely transformed from the broken, slouched teenager who had been forced to stare at the linoleum floor just twenty-four hours earlier.
The board president, a severe-looking man named Arthur Sterling, cleared his throat, adjusting his reading glasses as he looked down at the comprehensive printed dossier resting on the table before him.
"The board has reviewed the primary source evidence provided via the secure public broadcast this morning," Mr. Sterling began, his voice echoing authoritatively through the tense room.
"We have also verified the authenticity of the audio-visual files, the grade-falsification logs, and the internal administrative correspondence regarding systemic student suppression."
He paused, lifting his gaze to fix a withering glare directly upon Principal Thomas and Mrs. Carter.
"These findings do not merely represent a violation of district policy," Mr. Sterling continued, his tone hardening into absolute ice.
"They represent a profound, systemic betrayal of public trust, institutional ethics, and basic human decency."
Mrs. Carter’s legal representative immediately stood up, raising a hand in sharp protest.
"Mr. President, my client demands a formal internal investigation before any rash administrative actions are taken!" the lawyer argued forcefully.
"This entire digital package was illegally obtained via unauthorized surveillance, and its dissemination constitutes a clear violation of privacy rights!"
"Privacy rights do not protect the systematic abuse of minors within a public taxpayer-funded institution, counselor," a sharp, clear voice interrupted from the visitor’s gallery.
All heads turned toward the back of the room.

It wasn't Dylan who had spoken, nor was it his guardian.
It was Jake, sitting quietly in the back row with his laptop resting open on his knees, displaying a secondary backup server link active and ready for public deployment.
