Chapter 10 - A New Dawn

Six months later.

I stood in front of the mirror in my new quarters. My hair had grown into a sharp, neat military buzzcut. It suited me. It looked fierce, clean, and commanded respect.

The trial had been swift. Faced with mountains of evidence, including Chloe’s testimony, church witnesses, and undeniable paper trails, Ryan and Linda took plea deals.

Ryan received seven years in federal prison for identity theft, wire fraud, and embezzlement. Linda received four years for conspiracy and assaulting a federal officer.

The judge had ordered them to pay full restitution, liquidating everything they owned to pay me back the $72,000.

I was fully divorced. My finances were secure. But more importantly, my mind was free.

I walked into the command center. The officers and enlisted soldiers snapped to attention.

"Room, attention!" the Sergeant Major barked.

"At ease," I said, stepping up to the podium. I looked out at the men and women I had the privilege of leading. They respected me not because I demanded obedience, but because I earned their trust through competence and strength.

They had tried to break me while I slept. They thought removing my hair would remove my power. They thought a woman’s worth was tied to her submission.

They were wrong.

I didn't just survive their attack; I weaponized it. I turned their arrogance into their own prison bars.

I took a deep breath, feeling the cool air against my short hair, feeling the heavy, honorable weight of the silver eagle on my chest.

"Alright team," I said with a confident smile. "Let's get to work. We have a world to secure."
