Chapter 8 - The Hostile Takeover

The news of Lady Victoria’s arrest for the murders of Edmund and Clara Vale sent shockwaves through the global markets. Vale Industries' stock plummeted by thirty percent in a single morning. Sensing the blood in the water, Marcus Laurent launched his strike. With Victoria gone and Adrian emotionally compromised, Marcus initiated a hostile takeover bid. He had secretly bought up massive amounts of voting shares during the panic. He called an emergency shareholder meeting, intending to dissolve the Vale board and absorb the company into Laurent Holdings at a fraction of its true value. “He’s going to win,” Adrian said, sitting in Elena’s office. He looked defeated. “He has fifty-one percent of the voting power. We can’t stop him.” Julian paced the room, his mind working in overdrive. “Not unless we find a white knight,” Julian said. “Another major investor willing to buy out the remaining shares and back you two instead of Laurent.” “Who has that kind of capital?” Adrian asked. Julian stopped pacing and looked at Elena. “I do,” Julian said. “But it would require liquidating everything I own. My entire firm. My personal assets.” Elena stood up. “Julian, no. If we lose, you lose everything.” Julian walked over to her, taking both of her hands in his. “I told you I specialize in corporate warfare,” he said softly, his green eyes blazing with conviction. “But I’ve never fought for someone I actually believed in. Until now.” He wasn't just offering his money. He was offering his trust. His partnership. Elena squeezed his hands back. “Then let’s go destroy Marcus Laurent.” They had forty-eight hours to finalize the massive transfer of funds before the final gavel fell at the shareholder assembly.
