Chapter 6 - The Courtroom Climax

My husband thought our divorce hearing was his victory party.

Jason walked in with Madison on his arm, both of them wearing matching smug smiles.

He looked like a man about to inherit a kingdom.

As he walked past my table to get to his, he leaned down.

I could smell his expensive cologne.

He whispered: “You’ll be begging me before this is over.”

I stayed seated. I didn't even blink.

Then my attorney, Daniel, nodded at me.

I stood.

I slowly unbuttoned the heavy white coat.

Removed it.

Draped it over the back of my chair.

And the courtroom fell silent.

Jason stared at the healed, jagged scars exposed across my bare arms and shoulders.

His smug smile vanished. The color drained from his face.

Madison gasped, taking a step back.

“Don’t do this,” Jason hissed, his voice cracking.

Daniel placed a thick, heavy folder before the judge.

For years, Jason had claimed every injury was accidental. Clumsiness. Mental instability.

But the folder contained something stronger than my word against his.

"Your Honor," Daniel's voice boomed in the quiet room. "My client is not mentally unfit. She is a survivor of severe domestic abuse and corporate fraud."

Jason's attorney jumped up. "Objection! This is a divorce hearing, not a criminal trial!"

"Sit down, counselor," the judge ordered, his eyes locked on my scars.

Daniel pulled out the document.

A retired paramedic had kept the original report from a call Jason later convinced me to withdraw.

The report documented exactly what I had said before Jason reached the hospital room.

"Next," Daniel said, pulling out a small tablet.

He connected it to the courtroom's audio system.

"This is the body-camera audio from Officer Davis, recorded on the night of the incident."

My voice echoed through the speakers. It was shaking, terrified, and broken:

“He said if I leave, he’ll take the company and make everyone believe I’m unstable.”

May you like

Jason gripped the edge of his table.

He was shaking.
