Chapter 7 - Phase Three

The chaos that followed was a masterpiece.

Kevin tried to run out the back door but was tackled by an officer on the patio.

Sarah collapsed on the floor, weeping and begging for mercy, claiming she didn’t know anything about the stolen money.

I stood in the corner of the room, completely untouched, watching the empire of lies crumble into dust.

David was dragged past me in handcuffs.

He looked at me, his eyes wide with genuine terror.

“Claire, please,” he begged, his voice cracking. “I love you. Don’t do this. We can fix this!”

I stepped closer to him, leaning in so only he could hear me.

“Do as you’re told, David,” I whispered, echoing the exact words he said when he struck me.

“Go to prison.”

I turned my back on him and walked out the front door, leaving my half-eaten steak on the table.

The next few months were a whirlwind of legal destruction.

The forensic evidence was so overwhelming that none of them stood a chance in court.

To reduce their own sentences, Kevin and Sarah turned on David and Martha, testifying against them in a plea deal.

The family turned into a pack of starving dogs, tearing each other apart to save themselves.

The offshore accounts were seized, and all $600,000 was returned to my trusts.

My divorce from David was finalized in record time.

Because of his criminal convictions and the ironclad prenup I had updated, he walked away with absolutely nothing.
