Chapter 10 - The Final Piece of the Puzzle

The sun was setting over the city skyline as I walked out of the courthouse and into the brisk autumn air, where Marcus was waiting by the curb with a sleek black town car.
“It’s finally over, Natalie,” Marcus said, handing me a fresh leather folder containing the stamped, final court decrees. “Daniel’s logistics firm has been fully absorbed into Vance Holdings, and his father’s old partners are liquidating whatever remains to pay off their back taxes.”
I slid the folder into my briefcase and looked out at the bustling city streets. “And what about Daniel and Margaret?”
“They’ve been forced to move into a modest two-star motel on the outskirts of the city,” Marcus replied quietly. “Chloe’s friends have blocked her on social media after her luxury apartment was repossessed, and Daniel has already been blacklisted from every major shipping firm in the state due to the corporate fraud investigation.”
A profound sense of weight lifted from my chest, clearing away the last lingering shadows of the nightmare I had endured for years. They had tried to break me, to reduce me to a silent shadow holding a filthy rag in a blood-stained kitchen, but their cruelty had only served as the catalyst for my absolute liberation.

“Let’s go to the office, Marcus,” I said, opening the car door. “I have a board meeting to prepare for tomorrow morning.”
As the car pulled away from the curb, I caught my reflection in the tinted window. My smile was bright, steady, and entirely my own, anchored by a strength that could never be broken again.
