Chapter 10 - THE HANDCUFFS AND THE TURNING POINT

"Jonah Miller, you are being detained under suspicion of domestic battery, physical intimidation, and interference with a vulnerable adult's protective welfare," Deputy Harris stated smoothly, stepping forward and taking Jonah firmly by the forearm.

Jonah tried to yank his arm away in a final, desperate surge of defiance, but the second deputy moved in instantly to secure his other wrist, snapping the cold steel cuffs into place with practiced efficiency. "This is bullshit! You can't do this! My lawyer is going to sue this entire department!" Jonah hollered, his voice cracking with panic as he was forced backward against the bedroom wall.

Eleanor shrieked in horror, watching her son get restrained like a common criminal right in front of her eyes. "Don't touch him! He didn't do anything! This is an outrage!" she screamed, lunging forward toward the deputies before being firmly blocked by the perimeter barrier the officers established.

I stood calmly beside the bed, watching the cuffs lock securely around Jonah's wrists, knowing that every single consequence he was now facing was the direct result of his own arrogance and cruelty. He had spent months believing his victim was entirely helpless, assuming that her disability and dependence would keep her silent forever.

"You're making a terrible mistake!" Jonah yelled over his shoulder as Deputy Harris escorted him toward the bedroom door, his face twisted in a mask of bitter hatred and humiliation. "Chloe! You'll regret this! You can't survive without me!"

"She was never surviving with you, Jonah—she was only enduring," I said coldly, watching as they led him out of the room and down the hallway toward the stairs.

Chloe let out a long, shuddering sigh of relief, her shoulders dropping visibly as the heavy emotional weight she had carried for over a year finally began to lift from her chest. The terror that had paralyzed her voice for so long was replaced by a quiet, fierce resilience as she watched her abuser exit her life for good.

"He's gone," Chloe whispered, her eyes welling up with tears of pure liberation as she looked up at me. "He's really gone, Karina."

"He's gone, and he's never coming back near you again," I promised, sitting down on the edge of the mattress and wrapping my arms gently around her trembling shoulders. "Let's get your things packed. We're going home tonight."
