Chapter 4 - The Tampered Files
Three days passed without a word from Elias.
I thought he had finally listened and stayed away, but I was wrong.
I was at the nurses' station when Dr. Mateo approached me, looking deeply concerned.
“Valeria, why did you request a transfer of your prenatal records to a private clinic?”
I frowned, putting down my pen.
“I didn't request any transfer, Mateo. My records are right here.”
He handed me a piece of paper.
It was a transfer request, bearing my forged signature.
“The clinic is registered under Rodrigo Robles,” Mateo said quietly.
My blood ran cold. Rodrigo. Elias’s ruthless older brother.
“They are trying to get my medical history,” I realized, panic rising in my chest.
“Why?” Mateo asked.
“To find a weakness. A vulnerability.”
I didn't wait for permission. I grabbed my coat and marched straight out of the hospital.
I needed to find Elias.
