Chapter 8 - The Trap Springs

Elias walked into the dining room, flanked by two armed security guards and a police detective.
Leonor dropped her champagne glass. It shattered on the marble floor.
“Elias? What is the meaning of this?” she demanded, her voice shrill.
“The meaning, Mother, is that you are finished.”
Elias pulled out a small remote, pressing a button.
The audio from my hidden microphone began playing through the restaurant’s sound system.
“I loosened them. And if you don't take this cheque and vanish... the next accident won't be a broken wrist.”
Rodrigo lunged toward me, his face twisted in panic.
Before he could reach me, Elias tackled his brother to the ground, pinning him hard.
“You touched my daughter!” Elias roared, punching Rodrigo squarely in the jaw.
“Arrest them both,” the detective ordered.
The guards pulled Rodrigo up in handcuffs.
Leonor stood frozen, her arrogant facade finally crumbling as a female officer grabbed her wrists.
“Elias, you can't do this! I am your mother!” she shrieked.
“You lost that title the moment you threatened my children,” Elias said coldly.
He didn't look at her again as they dragged her out.
He turned to me, his chest heaving, his knuckles bleeding.
“Are you okay?” he asked, his voice cracking.
I nodded, letting out a breath I didn't realize I was holding.
