Chapter 7 - The Meeting

The restaurant was empty, bought out entirely by Leonor for our meeting.
I wore a loose maternity dress, hiding the small recording device taped beneath my collar.
Leonor sat opposite me, sipping champagne. Rodrigo stood by the window like a bodyguard.
“I knew you were just a stray dog looking for a bone,” Leonor smirked, sliding a cheque across the table.
I didn't touch it.
“Before I sign the non-disclosure agreement, I want guarantees,” I said, keeping my voice steady.
“Guarantees for what?” Rodrigo scoffed.
“That you won't touch my baby. Or Sofia.”
Leonor rolled her eyes. “Sofia was a necessary casualty to wake Elias up.”
“You loosened the bolts on your own granddaughter’s playground?” I asked, feigning shock.
Rodrigo stepped forward, laughing darkly.
“I loosened them. And if you don't take this cheque and vanish to Europe, the next accident won't be a broken wrist.”
My heart pounded, but I had what I needed.
“So it was all you two,” I said. “The fake photos. The tampered medical files. The playground.”
“And it will be much worse if you stay,” Leonor smiled. “Now sign.”
May you like
“She won't be signing anything.”
The heavy mahogany doors flew open.
