Chapter 10 - A New Empire

One year later.
The courtroom was dead silent as the judge read the final verdicts.
Evan Davis: Guilty of conspiracy to commit murder. Twenty-five years.
Margaret Davis: Guilty of extortion and conspiracy. Twenty years.
Harold Davis: Guilty of aggravated assault and conspiracy. Thirty years.
Claire sat in the front row, wearing a stunning white suit.
She didn't shed a single tear.
She watched as Evan, looking gaunt and terrified in his orange jumpsuit, was led away.
He didn't even look at her.
He knew he had lost everything.
Claire walked out of the courthouse and into the bright sunlight.
Sarah was waiting by the steps.
“Total victory,” Sarah said, handing Claire a champagne flute.
They clinked glasses right there on the courthouse steps.
Claire’s life had completely transformed in the past twelve months.
She had taken full control of her family's company.
Under her leadership, the business had doubled its profits.
She had started a foundation for victims of domestic financial abuse.
She was no longer the quiet, submissive wife who tried to keep the peace.
She was a force of nature.
That evening, Claire sat in the garden of her estate.
The sunset painted the sky in shades of gold and pink.
Lily, now a bubbly one-year-old, was toddling across the grass, giggling loudly.
Claire picked her daughter up, swinging her into the air.
Lily laughed, wrapping her small arms around Claire’s neck.
“We did it, my little warrior,” Claire whispered into Lily’s hair.
“We survived. And now, we thrive.”
The blue folder, the betrayal, the fear—it all belonged to the past.
Claire looked out over her beautiful home, holding the most precious thing in her world.
