Chapter 4 - The Counter-Attack Begins

Sarah arrived at the hospital an hour later.
She wore a sharp gray suit and carried a sleek black briefcase.
She locked the door behind her.
“Talk to me, Claire. What the hell happened?”
Claire told her everything.
The fight. The shove. The skillet.
And the words: Effective Before Child’s Birth.
Sarah’s eyes darkened with professional fury.
“They are trying to execute a fraudulent trust transfer.”
Sarah pulled out a legal pad.
“If you sign that, and then 'accidentally' die in childbirth or recovery...”
“Evan gets everything,” Claire finished the sentence.
“My family’s estate. The life insurance. Sole custody.”
“And Harold and Margaret get their cut,” Sarah added.
Claire looked toward the window.
“I want them in jail, Sarah. But I want them ruined first.”
Sarah smiled. It was a terrifying, brilliant smile.
“We need evidence, Claire. Physical, undeniable proof of their intent.”
“And we need to secure your assets immediately.”
For the next two hours, they drafted a counter-plan.
Claire quietly transferred her primary trust into a blind, irrevocable fund.
The sole beneficiary was her newborn daughter, Lily.
Evan’s name was completely erased from all financial access.
“Now,” Sarah said, packing up her laptop.
“We need them to admit to what they did. On tape.”
Claire nodded.
“They are coming back tomorrow to make me sign the blue folder.”
“Perfect,” Sarah said.
She handed Claire a small, black pen.
“This isn’t just a pen. It’s an HD audio and video recorder.”
“Get them talking. Make them comfortable.”
“Let them show their true colors.”
Claire clicked the pen. A tiny, invisible blue light flashed.
She looked at the empty bassinet in the corner of her room.
Her baby was safe down the hall.
Tomorrow, the hunters would become the hunted.

Evan thought he was the mastermind of this tragedy.
He was about to find out he was just a pawn in Claire's new game.
