Chapter 6 - Return to the Valley

The coordinates led to a desolate, sun-scorched canyon.
There were no military bases in sight. No fences. Just red rock and dead brush.
Ava parked the truck behind a massive boulder and stepped out. The heat was oppressive, but she didn't sweat. Her body regulated the temperature perfectly.
She held out the coin. The blue glow was brighter here, and the vibration was intense.
It was pulling her toward a narrow fissure in the canyon wall.
Ava squeezed through the gap. The air inside instantly grew cold.
The natural rock gave way to smooth, dark metal. It wasn't a cave. It was a tunnel bored through the earth by unimaginable heat.
She walked in silence, the coin illuminating the dark passage.
At the end of the tunnel, a massive, circular door blocked her path. It was covered in geometric glyphs that looked ancient and advanced at the same time.
She stepped closer. The door didn't have a handle. It had a small, circular indentation in the center.

Ava took a deep breath, raised her hand, and pressed the coin into the slot.
