Chapter 8 - Holloway’s Trap

Ava backed away, putting the pod between herself and the soldiers.

“You followed me,” she said, her voice steady.

“Of course I did,” Holloway chuckled. “Did you really think you escaped my base on your own? I opened the blast doors. I let you run.”

Ava’s eyes narrowed. “The tracker.”

“The coin is a beacon, Ava. But it only broadcasts its full frequency when it’s near the ship. You were the only one who could guide us here.”

Holloway drew his sidearm.

“Your father stole my greatest asset. He thought he was saving a child. He was just delaying the inevitable.”

“You want to weaponize them,” Ava said, gesturing to the pods.

“They are the perfect soldiers, Ava. Superhuman strength, instant regeneration, and absolutely no human morality. Once I plug that coin into the central console, I can wipe their dormant minds and program them.”

Holloway held out his hand.

“Give me the coin. Your part in this is over.”

Ava looked at the coin in her hand, then at the console in the center of the room.

“You’re wrong about one thing, General,” Ava said.

Holloway frowned. “What’s that?”

“Ethan Cross taught me humanity. He gave me morality.”
