Chapter 7 - The Vault of Sleepers

The door hissed, a rush of stale, compressed air blowing Ava’s hair back.
The heavy metal ground open, splitting down the middle and sliding into the walls.
Lights flickered to life. Not electric bulbs, but strips of bioluminescent energy embedded in the ceiling.
Ava stepped into a cavernous chamber. Her jaw dropped.
Buried beneath the desert was a ship. It was massive, sleek, and terrifyingly beautiful.
But it was the inside of the chamber that made her freeze.
Lining the walls were hundreds of vertical glass tubes. Inside each tube was a figure suspended in a clear, gelatinous liquid.
They looked human. Just like her.
Ava walked up to the nearest pod. The girl inside looked to be about her age, with pale skin and silver veins pulsing faintly beneath the surface.
“My family,” Ava whispered.
She touched the glass. The fluid inside rippled.
A heavy, slow clap echoed through the vault.
Ava spun around, her combat instincts instantly flaring.

General Holloway walked out from the shadows of the tunnel, flanked by a dozen heavily armed soldiers.
“Beautiful, isn't it?” Holloway said, a twisted smile on his face. “I’ve spent ten years trying to find this door.”
