Chapter 2 - The Boiling Point

The dinner was progressing exactly as Elena had feared. The conversation turned to Julian's recent business successes, and Chloe, fueled by expensive champagne, decided it was time to strike. "It's just a shame," Chloe sneered, her voice carrying over the clinking of crystal glasses, "that some people in this family contribute absolutely nothing to our legacy. Isn't that right, Elena?" The guests went dead silent. Elena calmly placed her fork down, meeting Chloe's hostile gaze. "I contribute honesty, Chloe. Something this family severely lacks." The room gasped. Julian’s face flushed a deep, violent crimson. He abruptly stood up, his chair scraping loudly against the marble floor. In a flash, he crossed the distance between them.
Smack. The sound of Julian’s hand striking Elena’s cheek echoed through the massive room. The sheer force of the blow snapped her head to the side. A sharp, burning sting erupted across her skin, leaving a visible, angry red scratch and a rising bruise. Elena stood up, her breath trembling, but her eyes blazed with an unyielding fire. Julian leaned in, his veins popping. "Apologize to my sister right now or get out!" he screamed, his voice laced with venom. Elena stared dead into his eyes. "No," she whispered firmly. Without missing a beat, she spun around and marched into the adjacent open-concept kitchen. A large pot of hot, creamy soup was simmering on the stove.
Driven by years of repressed anger and pure adrenaline, Elena grabbed the handles of the heavy pot. Julian stormed into the kitchen right behind her, ready to grab her arm. Before he could reach her, Elena swung around and hurled the contents of the pot directly at his chest. The thick, white liquid splashed violently over his expensive black silk shirt, shattering the illusion of his perfect composure. Julian let out a guttural scream of shock and rage. From the dining room, Margaret leaped to her feet, her emerald-green dress shimmering as she pointed a trembling, manicured finger at Elena. "You monster!" she shrieked. Within minutes, the wail of sirens filled the estate. The Sterlings had called their personal police contacts. Two burly officers marched into the house, violently pulling Elena's arms behind her back and clicking heavy steel handcuffs onto her wrists. "You'll go to prison for this!" Julian spat as she was dragged away. But as they led her down the hall, Elena caught a glimpse of the small black cube on the shelf. The tiny red light was still blinking. It had recorded everything.
