Chapter 4 - The Hidden Ace

Securing Elena's bail was a grueling battle. The prosecution, heavily influenced by the Sterling family's deep pockets, demanded a staggering amount, citing her as a "danger to society." But Marcus was relentless, using his encyclopedic knowledge of the law to tear down their arguments until the judge had no choice but to grant bail. The moment Elena stepped out of the precinct, the flashing bulbs of paparazzi cameras blinded her. Reporters shouted vicious questions, calling her a psycho and an abuser. Marcus shielded her, guiding her swiftly into the back of his waiting town car. As the doors slammed shut, cutting off the noise, Elena finally let out a breath she felt she had been holding for days.

"We have a major problem," Marcus said as the car sped away. "I sent my private investigator to the mansion under the guise of collecting your personal belongings. The house has been completely scrubbed. Julian hired a private security firm to sweep the entire estate the morning after you were arrested. The camera is gone." Elena’s heart plummeted into her stomach. "Gone? No... that can't be. Without that footage, it's my word against ten billionaires." Panic began to rise in her throat, choking her. All her planning, the abuse she had endured to get that evidence—was it all for nothing?

Marcus held up a hand, his eyes gleaming with a reassuring confidence. "Breathe, Elena. You're dealing with a man who understands technology about as well as he understands human empathy. Tell me about the camera." Elena swallowed hard, forcing her brain to focus. "It was an advanced model. I didn't want to risk an SD card being destroyed. I programmed it to automatically upload the footage in real-time to a secure, encrypted cloud server registered under my maiden name." Marcus let out a low whistle, clearly impressed. "Elena Vance, you are a genius." He pulled out a sleek laptop. "Give me the login credentials. If Julian's goons just smashed the physical camera, the footage is already sitting safely in the cloud, waiting to drop a nuclear bomb on his entire narrative." Within minutes, the raw, unedited video was playing on the screen. The slap, the screaming, the defense. It was perfectly clear.
