Chapter 9 - The Director's Cut

The courtroom lights dimmed. A large projector screen was lowered from the ceiling. Julian’s smug expression faltered, a flicker of genuine confusion crossing his face. Margaret leaned forward in the gallery, her knuckles white as she gripped the wooden pew. "Your Honor, members of the jury," Marcus's voice echoed in the silent room. "We have heard entirely consistent testimony from the Sterling family. Now, let's see what the house saw." He pressed play on his laptop.

The screen flickered to life in crisp, high-definition color. The timestamp on the bottom corner proved it was the night of the incident. There was the dining room. There was Chloe, sneering her insult about Elena contributing nothing. The jury heard Elena's calm, composed response. And then, the entire courtroom watched as Julian Sterling’s face contorted into rage. They watched him stand up, march over to his wife, and violently slap her across the face. The sickening smack echoed through the court speakers. The jury gasped in unison. Some jurors covered their mouths in horror. They heard Julian's tyrannical scream: "Apologize to my sister right now or get out!" They heard Elena's steadfast "No." They watched her retreat to the kitchen, only for Julian to aggressively pursue her, prompting her to throw the pot in self-defense.

The video kept playing, showing the police arriving, Julian's fake victim routine, and Margaret’s dramatic screaming. The silence in the courtroom after the video ended was deafening. It was absolute, unquestionable proof of perjury, abuse, and conspiracy. Julian sat completely frozen in the witness box, his face drained of all color. He looked like a man who had just watched his own execution. Margaret covered her face with her hands, letting out a wretched sob, realizing their entire empire had just collapsed. The DA looked at his files, then at Julian, with an expression of pure disgust. The judge glared down at Julian from the bench. "Mr. Sterling," the judge said, his voice trembling with fury. "You are to remain in that seat. Bailiff, secure the witness."
