Chapter 15 - The Phoenix Rises

Six months later.

The Moretti estate looked entirely different under the warm afternoon sun of late summer.

The dark, oppressive iron gates had been repainted in a soft bronze.

The rose gardens were blooming with thousands of white and crimson petals that perfumed the cool breeze.

Inside the grand ballroom, where four hundred elite guests had once whispered and judged, soft classical music played from hidden speakers.

There were no corrupt senators tonight.

There were no shady fixers or corporate thieves.

Only community leaders, orphanage directors, and scholars funded by the newly established Maria Rossi Foundation.

Isabella stood on the second-floor balcony, looking out over the manicured lawns.

She wore a simple, elegant ivory silk dress that swept against the stone floor.

Around her neck, resting against her warm skin, was the complete silver phoenix locket—both halves united at last.

Footsteps echoed softly behind her on the stone terrace.

Damian stepped out, holding two crystal flutes filled with sparkling cider.

He handed one to her without a word.

“The board meeting adjourned early,” Damian said with a faint smile.

“All three regional shipping terminals are operating at full capacity, and the community scholarship fund has already distributed its first five hundred grants.”

Isabella took a small sip from her glass, feeling the bubbles tickle her tongue.

“Do you think she would have liked it?”

Damian followed her gaze toward the western horizon, where the sun was beginning to set in a blaze of gold and amber fire.

“Your mother spent her entire life hiding in the shadows to keep you safe.”

“I think she would be looking down right now, watching you own this estate, and realizing she didn't have to hide anymore.”

Isabella leaned her head against Damian’s shoulder.

The past could not be erased.

The scars of the foster homes, the terror of the tenement apartment, and the ashes of Route 9 would always remain a part of who she was.

She was not just a maid who had dropped a tray of champagne.

She was the daughter of Maria Rossi.

She was the rightful heir of the Moretti empire.

And as the evening stars began to pierce the darkening sky above the estate, Isabella smiled.

The ghost had finally come home.
