Chapter 10 - A New Dawn

Six months later.

The morning sun spilled across the breakfast table, illuminating the fresh flowers and a spread of pancakes.

Ethan, now fully recovered and thriving, was happily covering his pancakes in maple syrup.

“Not too much, buddy,” Victor chuckled, sitting at the head of the table in a crisp suit, reading the morning paper.

I sat next to Victor, no longer a maid, no longer just a governess.

A sparkling diamond ring rested comfortably on my left hand.

The news of Serena Vance's sentencing had hit the papers yesterday.

She had been given fifteen years in a federal penitentiary without the possibility of early parole, abandoned by her wealthy family to avoid the PR nightmare.

Tommy had used his second chance well, working in the estate’s IT department and paying back every cent he owed, cleanly and legally.

Victor folded the newspaper and placed it down.

He looked at Ethan, then turned his gaze to me, his eyes filled with a warmth and devotion that still made my heart flutter.

“I have a meeting at ten,” Victor announced, reaching under the table to intertwine his fingers with mine. “But I cleared my schedule for the afternoon.”

“Oh?” I raised an eyebrow, taking a sip of my coffee. “And what are we doing this afternoon?”

“Cake tasting,” he smiled. “And then, I thought we could take Ethan to the beach. He’s been asking to build a sandcastle with his mom.”

The word mom still felt new, but it fit perfectly.

Ethan looked up, his face covered in syrup. “Beach, Mommy! Please?”

My heart swelled with a happiness I never thought possible when I first walked into this mansion wearing a maid's uniform.

“Yes, baby,” I beamed, wiping his sticky cheek. “We’re going to the beach.”

Victor leaned over and kissed me softly, a promise of forever sealed in the morning light.

From a bloody heel to a shattered past, we had fought for this peace.

And as I looked at my family, I knew our beautiful story had only just begun.
