Chapter 6 - A Dangerous Game

I ran to the main gates, Victor close behind me.

Tommy was clinging to the iron bars, his face bruised and his lip split open.

“Tommy!” I cried, signaling the guards to open the gate.

He fell into my arms, sobbing. “Clara… I’m so sorry. I messed up. They’re going to kill me.”

Victor stepped forward, assessing the situation. “Bring him inside. Call the private medic.”

Once Tommy was cleaned up and resting on a sofa in the drawing room, he told us everything.

He told us about his gambling debts, the loansharks, and how a mysterious woman with blonde hair had bought his debt.

“She gave me a choice,” Tommy whispered, looking at the floor in shame. “She said if I unlocked the back gate of this estate at midnight tonight, my debt would be cleared.”

Victor’s jaw clenched. “Serena.”

“I couldn’t do it, Clara,” Tommy cried. “I know how much these people mean to you. I couldn’t betray you. But now… they’re going to kill me.”

I hugged my brother tightly, terrified.

Victor didn’t panic. He thrived in chaos.

“She wants the back gate open at midnight?” Victor’s voice was dangerously low. “Fine. We’ll give her an open door.”

He turned to his head of security.

“Move Ethan and Clara to the panic room. Assemble the tactical team. If Serena wants to play a dangerous game, I’ll show her how it ends.”

I grabbed Victor’s arm. “What are you going to do?”

“I’m going to protect what’s mine,” he said, his eyes burning with a fierce, protective fire.

The use of the word "mine" sent a shiver down my spine.

He kissed my forehead, a brief but firm press of his lips. “Keep Ethan safe. I’ll handle the rest.”
