Chapter 7 - The Midnight Trap

The panic room was hidden behind a bookshelf in the master bedroom, completely soundproof and reinforced with steel.

I sat on a comfortable sofa, holding Ethan as he slept peacefully, completely unaware of the tension outside.

On the security monitors mounted on the wall, I watched the trap unfold.

At exactly midnight, three black SUVs pulled up silently to the back of the estate.

The back gate, seemingly left unlocked by Tommy, swung open easily.

Armed men stepped out, led by a figure in a black trench coat. Even in the dark, I recognized Serena’s posture.

She was arrogant, assuming victory was already hers.

They crept through the garden, heading straight for the servant's quarters, clearly aiming for me and Ethan.

They thought the house was asleep.

They were wrong.

As soon as they crossed the threshold of the patio, floodlights blazed to life, turning the dark night into bright day.

Serena shrieked, covering her eyes.

From the bushes, the roof, and the shadows, Victor’s heavily armed security team materialized, their weapons raised.

“Drop it!” a guard yelled.

The hired thugs, realizing they were severely outgunned and walking into a trap, instantly dropped their weapons and raised their hands.

They were mercenaries, not martyrs. They weren't dying for Serena Vance.

“Cowards! Do your jobs!” Serena screamed, slapping the nearest thug.

Victor walked slowly out of the shadows, looking like a king dispensing judgment.

“You broke onto my property with armed men, Serena. That’s home invasion, attempted kidnapping, and conspiracy to commit murder.”

Serena looked wildly around, realizing she was completely trapped.

“I just wanted to see Ethan!” she lied frantically. “I’m his mother figure!”

“You are a monster,” Victor corrected coldly.

Police sirens wailed in the distance, growing louder by the second. Victor had already called them.

As the police rushed in to handcuff the thugs, Serena made a desperate, unexpected move.

She pulled a small can of pepper spray from her pocket, sprayed it directly into the eyes of the nearest officer, and bolted toward the woods at the edge of the property.
