Chapter 10 - The Truth Behind the Veil

The roaring wind outside rattled the antique stained-glass windows of the lighthouse, threatening to shatter them at any moment.
Sarah stood frozen between the towering stone pillar where David was bound and the cold, calculating presence of Richard Vance.
“You destroyed our lives, framed a murder, and ruined my daughter's entire childhood just to protect a corporate patent?” Sarah’s voice shook with a terrifying, crystal-clear calm that caught Richard off guard.
Richard scoffed, stepping closer as his leather shoes clicked sharply against the stone floor.
“Morality is a luxury for people who don't control the global medical market, Mrs. Mitchell. That boy’s DNA code is worth billions. And now that Emma is legally a Vance, everything your family owns—and everything you know—belongs to us by marriage.”
Before Richard could reach out to snatch the archive file from Sarah’s hand, a sudden, deafening roar echoed from the cliffside access road outside.
The blinding glare of multiple high-beam headlights cut through the stormy darkness, sweeping across the lighthouse windows.
The heavy oak doors of the lighthouse blew wide open with a thunderous crash.
Standing in the doorway, soaked to the bone in her sweeping white wedding gown, was Emma.
Behind her stood Lucas Vance, his face twisted in utter shock and panic, flanked by state police cruisers with their emergency sirens flashing red and blue against the coastal spray.
“Emma?!” Sarah cried out, her heart leaping into her throat. “What are you doing here?!”
Emma stepped into the room, her bridal veil torn and trailing behind her in the mud. Her eyes were wide, fixed entirely on the bruised, battered man tied to the iron pillar.
“Lucas tried to lock me in the master suite tonight,” Emma said, her voice shaking with a fierce, chilling realization. “He thought I was asleep. But I overheard him talking on the phone to his father about a 'cleanup operation' and a little boy named Leo.”
Emma took another step forward, staring directly at David.
“I remember him now,” Emma whispered, tears streaming down her face mixing with the rain. “Twelve years ago... that little boy wasn't a stranger. He was my best friend in that underground clinic. And you...”
Emma turned her furious gaze toward Richard Vance.
“You're the monster who locked us both in the dark.”
Lucas Vance rushed through the doorway behind his bride, his hands raised in desperate defense.
“Dad, stop! The police are already tracking our communication logs! We’re finished!”
Richard’s face contorted into a mask of pure fury. He pulled a heavy steel-barreled revolver from inside his overcoat, leveling it directly at David’s chest.
“If I go down, nobody walks out of this room alive!” Richard screamed, his finger tightening on the trigger.
Sarah didn't hesitate.
With a primal scream of maternal fury, she lunged forward, tackling Richard full-force just as the gun went off.
Bang!
The bullet ricocheted off the stone ceiling, showering sparks across the room.
Sarah and Richard tumbled to the floor in a violent struggle for the weapon.
From the doorway, Mark rushed in alongside two state troopers, tackling Lucas to the ground while another officer drew his service weapon, aiming squarely at Richard Vance.

“Drop the weapon! Federal marshals! Drop it now!”
Richard glared up from the floor, panting heavily, realizing every exit was sealed. Slowly, his fingers loosened around the cold steel of the gun, letting it slide across the wet stone.
