Chapter 4 - THE STORM BREAKS: TEARING DOWN THE MASK OF THE TYRANTS

The silence in the industrial kitchen was so profound that the dripping of a leaky faucet sounded like falling boulders. Jennifer’s hand shook so violently that a few drops of white wine spilled over the rim of her crystal glass, splattering against the concrete floor.

"L-Leo!" Jennifer stammered, forcing a sickly, high-pitched laugh as she tried to regain her footing. "W-What a wonderful surprise! You... you're back early! Why didn't you call? We would have rolled out the red carpet, we would have prepared the master dining room, we—"

"Shut your mouth, Jennifer," Leo whispered.

The words weren't shouted. They carried a terrifying, icy stillness that made Jennifer instantly snap her jaw shut, her eyes darting frantically toward the door.

Leo ignored his sister entirely. He closed the remaining distance between himself and the industrial sink, his boots clicking rhythmically against the concrete. His eyes traced the raw, bleeding blisters on Emma’s knuckles, the smudge of soot on her cheek, and the profound, soul-crushing defeat etched into the posture of the woman he had sworn to protect with his dying breath.

Without a word, Leo reached out. He gently took Emma’s raw, wet hands in his own palms, ignoring the soapy residue and grease. He lifted them, pressing his lips softly against her bruised knuckles, his own eyes burning with hot, unhedged tears.

"I'm sorry," Leo choked out, his voice cracking with a pain that rivaled physical agony. "I am so, so sorry, my love. I let you down."

Emma finally broke. A sob tore from her throat, and she collapsed against his chest, burying her face in his shoulder as the pent-up trauma of five years of psychological torture, isolation, and slave labor poured out in a torrential downpour of tears. Her arms wrapped around his neck, gripping him tightly as if fearing he would vanish into smoke again.

"They... they took my phone, Leo," Emma wept softly against his collarbone. "They locked the gates. They told me you didn't love me anymore, that you had a new family in Europe, and that if I didn't work off my keep, they would throw me into the streets with nothing..."

Leo’s head snapped up. The sorrow in his eyes instantly vanished, replaced by an apocalyptic fury that made him look less like a successful businessman and more like an executioner.

He slowly turned his head to look at Jennifer.

Jennifer shrank back against the stainless-steel counter, her face turning chalk-white. "Leo... listen to me, she's lying! Emma is unstable! Mother said she was losing her mind, she hallucinates things, she—"

"Shut up," Leo said again, his voice dropping into a register so deep and menacing that Jennifer whimpered.

Leo pulled his phone from his pocket with one hand while holding Emma securely with the other. He unlocked the screen with a swipe of his thumb, tapped a single speed-dial icon, and brought the device to his ear.

"Marcus," Leo said into the phone, his voice steady, cold, and absolute. "Bring the security team, the lead corporate attorney, and the local county sheriff through the front gates right now. Clear the house of every single uninvited parasite. And lock down every single bank account associated with Margaret Vance, Jennifer Vance, and Michael Vance, effective immediately."

Jennifer let out a piercing shriek of absolute terror. "You can't do that! We're your family! You gave us those accounts! You gave us this house!"

"This isn't your house, Jennifer," Leo replied, turning his blazing gaze upon her. "This is Emma’s house. And as of five minutes ago, none of you even exist in my world anymore."
