Chapter 9 - THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF PARASITES: CHAINS AND CONSEQUENCES

The federal indictment came down forty-eight hours after the press conference with the force of a falling meteor.

There were no plea deals offered, no quiet settlements behind closed doors, and no leniency from the presiding federal judge, who happened to be a well-known advocate for corporate transparency and anti-fraud enforcement in Texas. The evidence presented by Marcus and the federal marshals was so overwhelming, airtight, and comprehensive that defense attorneys appointed to Margaret, Jennifer, and Michael advised their clients to plead guilty immediately in exchange for the bare minimum sentencing guidelines.

They refused. Arrogance to the bitter end, Margaret insisted to the media outside the courthouse that the judicial system was rigged against her and that her son would eventually forgive her.

She was devastatingly wrong.

The trial lasted a mere four days. The jury deliberated for less than thirty minutes before returning unanimous guilty verdicts on all counts: wire fraud, grand larceny, identity theft, and corporate embezzlement.

The sentencing hearing was broadcasted nationally.

Margaret Vance, stripped of her designer clothes, wearing a coarse orange detention jumpsuit with her gray hair unstyled and her face lined with genuine, desperate terror, stood before the federal judge.

"Margaret Vance," the judge intoned, his voice echoing solemnly through the wood-paneled courtroom. "You used the sacred bond of motherhood as a shield to perpetrate systemic financial theft and psychological abuse. You exploited your son’s success and degraded an innocent human being who trusted you. Greed has a heavy price, and today you will pay it."

The gavel slammed down with a resounding crack.

Margaret Vance: Ten years in federal prison without the possibility of parole. Jennifer Vance: Eight years in federal prison. Michael Vance: Seven years in federal prison, coupled with mandatory restitution orders that stripped away every luxury car, designer garment, and hidden asset they had accumulated.

As the bailiffs placed cold steel handcuffs around Margaret’s wrists and led her away toward the holding cells, she let out a piercing, desperate wail, screaming Leo’s name across the courtroom. Leo sat in the front row, flanked by Emma and Marcus, his expression completely unreadable. He didn't blink. He didn't smile. He simply watched the remnants of his toxic family disappear behind heavy iron security doors, feeling a massive, suffocating weight lift permanently from his shoulders.

The parasites were gone. The rot had been excised. And the foundation was finally clean.
