Chapter 5 - THE PURGE: EVICTING THE VAMPIRES FROM THE PALACE

Within fifteen minutes, the opulent party in the grand dining room transformed into a scene of absolute, unmitigated chaos.

The heavy oak front doors flew open, not with the grace of arriving guests, but with the authoritative push of four armed private security guards led by Marcus Vance, Leo’s chief of corporate security and a former federal marshal. Behind them strode two uniformed Dallas County deputy sheriffs, their badges gleaming under the crystal chandeliers.

The music cut off instantly. The DJ scrambled behind his turntables as the glittering socialites and opportunistic leeches froze in sheer terror.

Margaret Vance, resplendent in her layers of gold and designer silk, pushed her way to the front of the crowd, her face twisted in an ugly mask of arrogant entitlement. She spotted Leo walking down the grand staircase, with Emma—now washed, wearing a clean robe, and holding a cup of warm tea—walking steadily beside him.

"Leo! What is the meaning of this outrage?!" Margaret shrieked, pointing a trembling, diamond-ringed finger at the police officers. "Explain to these armed thugs right now why my own son’s house has been invaded! Arrest these intruders! Throw that ungrateful servant back outside where she belongs!"

Leo stopped halfway down the stairs. He looked down at his mother—the woman who had birthed him, raised him, and then ruthlessly exploited his absence to run a domestic tyranny behind his back.

"Mother," Leo said, his voice echoing coldly across the high ceilings. "Your allowance is canceled. Your credit cards are frozen. Your access to my properties is permanently revoked."

Margaret gasped, her jaw dropping so low it looked as though it might unhinge. "You... you can't do that! I raised you! I gave you life! You owe me everything!"

"I owed you respect," Leo replied, stepping down onto the marble floor. "A respect you traded for greed, cruelty, and the abuse of the woman who actually built my life alongside me. Marcus."

"Sir," Marcus stepped forward crisply.

"Escort every single person in this room off the property. Anyone who resists or refuses to leave within five minutes is to be arrested for trespassing and breaking and entering."

"With pleasure, Mr. Vance," Marcus barked.

Panic erupted instantly. Socialites screamed, dropping wine glasses as security guards gently but firmly herded them toward the front doors. Jennifer shrieked hysterically, lunging forward as if to claw at Emma’s face, but two security guards intercepted her mid-air, pinning her arms behind her back and dragging her screaming toward the exit.

Michael tried to sneak toward the back service doors, but Marcus blocked his path, grabbing him by the collar of his designer shirt and hoisting him up like a ragdoll.

"Let me go! You can't do this, Leo, I'm your brother!" Michael wailed, his face red with humiliation as guests stared in shock.

"You were my brother," Leo said quietly, walking up to Michael until they were nose to nose. "Now, you're just another trespasser being evicted from my estate."

May you like

As Margaret, Jennifer, Michael, and their sycophantic guests were forcibly marched out the front doors and pushed down the grand stone steps into the Texas night, the heavy mahogany doors slammed shut with a definitive, thunderous bang.

The palace was finally silent. And for the first time in five years, it actually felt like home.
