Chapter 8 - THE PRESS CONFERENCE: TRUTH AS A WEAPON OF MASS DESTRUCTION

By 11:45 AM, the front gates of the Vance estate were overflowing with over a hundred journalists, camera crews, satellite trucks, and curious onlookers. Microphones were stacked three deep on a temporary podium set up at the top of the grand marble steps. Flashbulbs popped blindingly as Leo Vance stepped out of the double doors, flanked not by lawyers, but by Marcus and two federal marshals holding thick manila folders.
To Leo’s right stood Emma, dressed in an elegant, simple black dress, her head held high, radiating quiet dignity and absolute grace.
Silence descended upon the chaotic mob as Leo stepped up to the microphones.
"Thank you all for coming," Leo’s voice boomed through the speakers, steady, resonant, and completely devoid of fear or hesitation. "For the past forty-eight hours, tabloid media outlets have published stories claiming that I abandoned my family, that I am a tyrant who mistreated my mother, and that my success was built on cruelty. Every single word of those reports is a malicious, fabricated lie designed to extort millions of dollars from my company."
Instantly, reporters shouted over one another, microphones thrust forward.
"Mr. Vance! Are you denying that your mother and siblings were locked out of your estate?" shouted a reporter from the front row.
"I am not denying that they were locked out," Leo replied, his voice cutting through the noise like a scythe. "I am confirming that they were evicted. Not because I am a cruel son, but because my mother, Margaret Vance, my sister, Jennifer Vance, and my brother, Michael Vance, have spent the last three years systematically embezzling over twelve million dollars from my business and charity accounts."
A collective gasp swept through the press corps. Cameras whirred furiously as reporters scrambled to type notes.
"That is a lie! You're framing us!"
A shrill, hysterical voice pierced the crowd. From the edge of the property line, outside the security gates, Margaret Vance stood holding a megaphone, flanked by Jennifer and Michael. They had attempted to sneak past the media blockade to disrupt the conference.
"Look at him! He's a monster!" Margaret shrieked into her megaphone, crocodile tears streaming down her powdered face. "He's destroying his own flesh and blood to protect that worthless servant wife of his!"
Leo didn't flinch. He didn't raise his voice. He simply gestured to Marcus, who stepped forward and opened one of the thick manila folders on the podium.
"Marcus, please distribute copies of the federal bank wire transfers, the forged power-of-attorney signatures notarized under fraudulent pretenses, and the internal security footage logs," Leo instructed calmly.
Within seconds, Marcus handed thick packets of irrefutable, legally certified evidence directly to the front-row journalists.
Leo leaned back into the microphone, his eyes locking onto the cameras broadcasting live across national television. "Furthermore, to those who claim my wife was treated like royalty while living here, let me play a short, high-resolution security camera clip recorded by our outdoor service-wing cameras just three days ago."
Marcus tapped a remote in his hand. A large portable LED screen set up beside the podium flickered to life.
The crystal-clear footage began to play. The audio and video broadcasted across the nation showed Jennifer standing with a glass of wine, casually mocking Emma while forcing her to scrub greasy, blackened pots with bleeding, blistered hands in an industrial sink. The audio captured Jennifer’s harsh, abusive commands word for word.
The crowd of reporters fell into an absolute, stunned silence. The ambient chatter died instantly.
Outside the gates, Margaret, Jennifer, and Michael froze. The color drained entirely from their faces as they realized the trap they had walked into. They hadn't just exposed Leo; they had broadcasted their own criminal depravity to the entire world.
Leo looked directly down the barrel of the primary news camera, his expression carved from granite.

"My family chose greed over loyalty, crime over family, and extortion over honesty," Leo declared, his voice ringing with absolute finality. "Those files are now in the hands of the United States Department of Justice. Warrants for their arrest have already been signed. The Vances who preyed on innocence are finished. And justice will be served in full."
He turned, wrapped his arm gently around Emma’s waist, and walked back into the mansion, leaving the media circus in absolute, jaw-dropping shock.
