Chapter 7 - THE HEALING WOUNDS AND THE REBUILT HOME

Three weeks had passed since the catastrophic wedding day that made front-page news across the nation. The tabloids had feigned shock, running sensational headlines about the "Bride of Deception" and the "Tech Billionaire's Hero Daughter," but for Lucas and Lily, the media circus was just white noise outside their fortress.
They were back in their sunlit kitchen. The heavy, oppressive atmosphere that had hung over the house for the past eight months was entirely gone. The agency nurse had been dismissed on day one, replaced by a warm, trusted family friend who had known Lily since she was a baby.
Lucas stood by the counter, whisking pancake batter while wearing a flour-dusted apron that read World's Okayest Dad.
Lily sat at the island table, her crayons scattered across the marble surface as she drew a vibrant, chaotic picture of a tall man in a cape holding a little girl's hand, surrounded by flying dogs and giant ice cream cones.
"Daddy?" Lily called out, not looking up from her drawing.
"Yes, peanut?" Lucas smiled, pouring a dollop of batter into the hot skillet.
"Are we ever going to have another Mommy?"
Lucas paused, the whisk hovering over the bowl. He walked over to the island, pulling up a stool to sit right beside her, bringing himself down to her eye level. He gently brushed a stray curl from her forehead.
"Listen to me, Lily," Lucas said softly, his voice steady and earnest. "You and me? We are a complete team. We don't ever need anyone else to make our family whole. But if—and only if—someone ever comes into our lives who is kind, honest, and loves you as much as I do... we will only let them in together. Deal?"

Lily’s face lit up with a wide, gap-toothed grin. She threw her arms around his neck, nearly knocking him off his stool. "Deal, Daddy!"
As he hugged her back, feeling the genuine warmth of his daughter's heartbeat against his chest, Lucas knew that the nightmare was truly over. He had lost a fortune in legal fees and suffered a bruised ego, but he had saved the only thing in the world that mattered.
