Chapter 15 - The Fall of Julian Hail and the Unbroken Crown of Blackridge

The digital countdown on the wall console ticked relentlessly downward: 16:45... 16:44... 16:43...
Julian sat frozen in the master armchair, his aristocratic veneer completely shattered, staring down at the analog bypass box with the wide, panicked eyes of a cornered animal.
"You're bluffing," Julian spat out, though his voice shook with unmistakable terror. "If you flip that analog switch without the primary coolant stabilization sequence, you'll blow the entire East Wing substation!"
"Try me," Roman replied smoothly, his thumb resting firmly against the heavy metal toggle of the bypass box.
"Fifteen years ago, I watched you burn a safehouse to fake your own death and abandon our family to the wolves. I am not about to let you burn my home down twice."
Elena stepped closer, placing a comforting hand on Roman’s shoulder, while little Lily curiously poked her head out from behind Elena’s skirt to look at the angry man sitting at the desk.
"Uncle Roman," Lily whispered loudly, pointing a tiny finger directly at Julian Hail. "That man is sitting in your big chair without asking permission."
Roman let out a short, genuine laugh, the tension in the room instantly breaking as he looked down at the little girl who had saved his life from a dark-blue truck just days prior.
"You're entirely right, General Lily. He's sitting in a chair he hasn't earned, and it’s time for him to leave the premises," Roman agreed solemnly.
He didn't wait for Julian to surrender. With one swift, authoritative downward motion, Roman slammed the heavy analog toggle switch into the manual override position.
A deep, subterranean shudder ripped through the concrete foundations of the mansion, accompanied by the loud, hissing roar of high-pressure steam venting safely out through the exterior exhaust towers of the East Wing.
On the wall console, the flashing red warning numbers instantly froze, shifted to a steady green light, and displayed a cool, optimal operating temperature.
Julian’s master override was completely neutralized in less than three seconds.
Before Julian could even push himself up out of the leather armchair, Garrett and the loyal operatives stepped forward, their assault rifles raised and locked onto his chest.
"Get him out of my sight," Roman commanded, his voice dropping into a lethal register that brooked zero argument. "Lock him in the lowest subterranean cell beneath the East Wing—right next to Dominic."
"You can't do this! I am a founder of Blackridge! I am family!" Julian shrieked hysterically as Garrett grabbed him roughly by the collar of his tailored overcoat, hauling him up out of the chair.
"Family doesn't try to bake a three-year-old child and her mother in an iron oven," Roman stated coldly, watching without a shred of pity as his uncle was dragged out of the master office.
The heavy oak doors slammed shut behind them, sealing the room in a quiet, peaceful stillness that felt heavier and more absolute than anything the estate had ever known.
Roman turned around, exhaling a long, ragged breath that released the last remaining tension of the twenty-year vendetta resting on his shoulders.
He knelt down in front of Lily, scooping her up into his strong arms and lifting her high into the air with a bright, triumphant smile.
"The big bad truck didn't win today, General Lily," Roman said warmly, gently nuzzling her cheek as she giggled with pure delight.
Elena stood watching them, her heart overflowing with a profound sense of peace and belonging that she had never found anywhere else in the world.
The traitors were in the basement.

The ghosts of the past were firmly locked away behind iron doors.
And the Blackridge Estate finally belonged entirely to the people who were willing to fight for it with absolute, unshakeable love and loyalty.
