Chapter 10 - The Fall of the Bellini Dynasty

By ten o'clock that morning, the grand mahogany boardroom on the top floor of the Moretti estate was filled to absolute capacity.
The heads of all five Chicago syndicate families sat in leather armchairs around the massive conference table, their faces grim and silent.
At the head of the table sat Don Salvatore Moretti, his silver-tipped cane resting across his knees like a scepter of absolute authority.
Bound by heavy steel cuffs at the opposite end of the room sat Enzo Bellini and his daughter Vanessa.
Vanessa’s red Valentino dress was stained with mud from the packing plant floor, her mascara streaked across her cheeks, and her aristocratic smile entirely shattered.
She looked across the room and locked her furious green eyes directly onto me as I stood beside Luca near the projection screen.
“You’re just a maid!” Vanessa shrieked, lunging forward in her chair before two guards forced her back down.
“You ruined everything! You were supposed to be out on the street!”
“Quiet, Vanessa,” Don Salvatore commanded, his ancient voice echoing off the wood-paneled walls with terrifying force.
“You brought shame upon the syndicate by fabricating audio files to wage an internal civil war against my family.”
Luca stepped forward, tapping the remote control in his hand.
The projection screen behind him lit up, displaying the audio waveforms, the fake voice synthesizer logs, and the financial ledger detailing Enzo’s money laundering ring.
“The evidence is absolute,” Luca stated, his voice ringing through the room with cold, indisputable authority.
“The Bellini family attempted to frame me for the disappearance of Julianna Rossi to seize fifty percent of our shipping territory.”
“Julianna is currently resting upstairs under medical care, and Agent Miller has already provided a full confession regarding their financial collusion.”
The syndicate elders muttered among themselves, casting disgusted glances toward Enzo and Vanessa.
Don Salvatore raised his hand slowly, and the entire room fell dead silent.
“By unanimous vote of the commission,” Salvatore declared, standing up with the support of his cane.
“The Bellini family is stripped of all titles, assets, and territorial claims in the city of Chicago.”
“Effective immediately, their properties are seized by the Moretti council, and Enzo and Vanessa are banished to permanent exile across the Atlantic.”
“You can’t do this!” Enzo screamed, thrashing against his chair as the guards hauled him to his feet.
“The commission will tear you apart from the inside, Luca! You haven’t won!”
Vanessa didn't scream.
As the guards dragged her past me toward the heavy oak doors, she stopped for a fraction of a second, her eyes burning with pure, unadulterated venom.
“You think you’ve won, Grace,” she whispered, her voice like ice water running down my spine.
“You’re just a temporary fixture in a world of wolves.”
“She is no longer a fixture, Vanessa,” Luca said, stepping in front of me and blocking her view completely.
“She is the reason you are leaving this city in handcuffs.”
The heavy oak doors slammed shut behind them, sealing the fate of the Bellini dynasty forever.
The boardroom exhaled a collective sigh of relief as Don Salvatore sank back into his chair, nodding approvingly toward Luca.
“A clean house, nephew,” the old man murmured.
“And a debt repaid.”

Luca turned around, looking down at me with an expression that held no trace of the cold mafia boss the city feared.
“Come, Grace,” he said softly, offering his arm.
