Chapter 13 - The Inheritance of Poison

Marcus’s smile widened into a predatory grin, clearly amused by Elena’s sharp retort.
"Spoken like a true archivist," Marcus praised lightly, leaning back in his leather chair.
"Straight to the point. Very well. Let us dispense with the corporate pleasantries."
Marcus reached inside his tailored suit jacket, pulling out a thick, legal-bound document embossed with gold notary seals, and slid it across the obsidian table toward them.
Dante didn't touch the papers; he simply stared down at the title page with narrowed eyes.
"What is this?" Dante demanded.
"That," Marcus replied smoothly, "is a certified copy of the original family trust indenture, signed by my grandfather in nineteen-eighty-five."
He tapped his fingers against the table.
"According to the founding clauses of Vance Holdings, any hostile takeover or federal indictment of a sitting CEO automatically invalidates their executive standing, transferring control of the core shipping infrastructure to the senior surviving bloodline member."
Elena’s blood ran cold. She stepped forward, picking up the legal document and scanning the dense, archaic legalese with rapid precision.
"He's right," she whispered, looking up at Dante with a pale, horrified expression.
"Because Viktor is facing federal prosecution, this trust indenture triggers an automatic reversion of ownership. Marcus isn't just a visitor... he’s the legal majority shareholder."
Marcus chuckled softly, a sound like dry leaves scraping across pavement.
"Ten points to the archivist," Marcus mocked gently.
"You see, Dante, while you were busy playing street-level enforcer and trying to clean up my brother's messy drug operations, I spent the last decade quietly buying up the distressed debt of every subsidiary attached to this conglomerate."
Marcus stood up slowly, leaning over the table, his eyes burning with absolute, fanatical ambition.
"Vance Holdings belongs to me now. Every ship, every dock, every offshore account. You are both standing on my property."
Dante remained entirely motionless.
The suffocating silence in the boardroom stretched taut, heavy enough to crush bone, as Dante slowly unfolded his arms and stepped around the edge of the table.
He walked toward Marcus with a slow, predatory grace that made the older man’s triumphant smile falter just a fraction.
"You think a piece of paper signed thirty years ago makes you king of this city?" Dante asked, his voice a low, gravelly hum that vibrated through the glass walls.
"You spent twenty years hiding in Zurich because you were too cowardly to face the blood on your own hands."
Marcus’s jaw tightened, his aristocratic composure cracking under the weight of his nephew’s intimidation.
"I am family, Dante!" Marcus hissed, stepping back a half-step.
"You can't touch me without destroying the last shred of legitimacy this company has left!"
May you like
"Family?" Dante repeated, a dark, humorless laugh escaping his lips as he closed the remaining distance between them.
"In our family, blood is just a payment method. And your debt is long overdue."
