Chapter 14 - The Chessboard and the Counter-Move

The heavy oak doors of the boardroom swung open suddenly, breaking the suffocating tension between uncle and nephew.

A breathless corporate attorney, clutching a thick leather briefcase, rushed into the room, his eyes wide with panic.

"Mr. Vance!" the attorney blurted out, addressing Dante before freezing when he noticed Marcus standing across the table.

"Speak," Dante commanded without taking his eyes off Marcus.

"We... we just received an emergency injunction from the federal bankruptcy court," the attorney stammered, holding out a printed sheet of digital notification.

"Marcus Vance’s primary holding company in Zurich has just been hit with an international asset freeze by Interpol."

Marcus spun around, his aristocratic composure instantly shattering into genuine, unadulterated panic.

"That's impossible!" Marcus roared, slamming his silver cane against the obsidian floor.

"I hold the Swiss bank sovereign immunity waivers!"

Elena stepped forward, a cold, triumphant smile gracing her lips as she tapped the screen of her corporate tablet.

"Sovereign immunity waivers only protect you if your funds originate from legitimate commercial enterprises, Marcus," Elena stated clearly, her voice ringing with intellectual supremacy.

"When we audited the subsidiary debt you bought up over the last decade, we didn't just look at the numbers. We traced the wire transfers back to the exact same offshore accounts Viktor was using to funnel cartel money."

Marcus’s face drained of color, his skin turning a sickly, chalky gray under the recessed LED lights.

"You... you set a trap," Marcus whispered, staring at Elena as if she were a ghost.

"Not a trap," Dante corrected coldly, stepping up directly beside Elena and slipping his arm protectively around her waist.

"An accounting error. You thought you were buying a bankrupt empire, but you actually just bought into a federal RICO investigation."

Before Marcus could reach for the legal documents on the table, the heavy glass doors slid open a second time.

This time, it wasn't an attorney.

Two federal marshals in tactical gear stepped silently into the boardroom, their badges gleaming in the harsh light.

"Marcus Vance?" the lead marshal asked, stepping up to the table with a pair of steel handcuffs ready in his hand.

"You are under arrest for international money laundering, corporate fraud, and conspiracy against Vance Holdings."

Marcus stared at the handcuffs, his chest heaving with ragged, panicked breaths, before slowly turning his head to glare at Dante with pure, murderous hatred.

"You think this is a victory?" Marcus hissed as the marshals grabbed his arms and forced his wrists behind his back.

"The syndicate will tear you apart from the inside out! You can't control the streets, Dante!"

May you like

"I am the streets," Dante replied smoothly, his voice dropping into a chilling, absolute finality as the marshals hauled Marcus toward the exit.

"And you are just history."
