Chapter 4 - The Deleted Threat

Principal Harrison sat behind his desk, looking pale and sweating. Detectives surrounded his office. When Jennings slammed the buried report on his desk, he swallowed hard. "It was a misunderstanding," he stammered, avoiding eye contact. "Mr. Arthur is a prominent donor to the school board. He assured me the girl was just clumsy and seeking attention."

He insisted it was a tragic administrative error and claimed he had no idea the abuse was real. But Jennings knew a liar when she saw one. She didn't waste time arguing with him. She called in the county’s cyber-crimes division, and the school's IT department was ordered to surrender the principal's hard drive.

They ran a deep forensic recovery on his email server, digging through thousands of deleted files. By midnight, they hit the jackpot. They recovered a chain of permanently deleted emails from four months ago. The emails were sent from Arthur's private corporate account. The first email read: "Richard, I saw the teacher's report. You need to make this disappear."

The principal had replied: "I can't do that, Arthur. It's against the law. I have to report it." Then came the chilling response from Lila's father—the email that changed everything. Arthur had written: "I’d hate for the district to hear what happened with your son on Prom night. The evidence is still in my safe." Ten minutes later, the principal had sent his final reply: "The report is gone. It never existed."

The blackmail was undeniable. But what exactly was the principal hiding?
