Chapter 13 - The Edge of the Skyline and the Final Judgment

Julian slumped against the glass window panel, sliding down into a sitting position on the white marble floor, his tailored suit jacket staining rapidly with dark crimson blood.

He held his wounded shoulder with his left hand, his face pale, his breath coming in ragged, painful gasps as he looked up at me standing over him.

I walked slowly around the shattered glass desk, keeping my firearm leveled at his chest, and stopped two feet away from him.

"You lost, Julian," I said quietly, looking down at the man who had fancied himself The Architect of an underworld empire.

"Your network is dismantled, your political patrons are facing federal indictments, and your syndicate is nothing more than a smoking ruin."

Julian let out a weak, pathetic chuckle, blood bubbling slightly at the corner of his lips. "You... you think this stops with me, Adrien?" he whispered, his eyes flashing with a desperate defiance.

"The underworld doesn't have an end. When I'm gone... another architect will take my place. They'll come for your children... they'll come for your empire..."

"Let them come," I interrupted, my voice carrying the absolute, unshakeable authority of a man who ruled the shadows by birthright and iron will.

"I built this empire out of blood and loyalty. And every single time someone tries to touch my family, I will hunt them down to the ends of the earth."

I lowered my firearm just an inch, engaging the safety click, and clipped it back into my shoulder holster.

I didn't need to pull the trigger.

Downstairs in the ground-floor lobby, the heavy rhythmic footsteps of Marco and the tactical assault team echoed up the elevator shaft as they flooded into the penthouse suite.

"Boss!" Marco’s voice called out over the comms unit, followed by the sound of boots rounding the corner.

Marco and four heavily armed operatives rushed into the glass suite, their weapons sweeping the room before locking onto Julian bleeding against the window.

Marco took one look at Julian, then looked up at me. "Status, Boss?"

"Secure the perimeter, call an extraction team, and notify the federal prosecutor's office that The Architect is ready for booking," I commanded, turning my back on Julian without another glance.

"Understood, Boss," Marco nodded, signaling two operatives to haul the wounded mastermind up to his feet.

I walked back toward the private elevator cabin, my footsteps echoing against the pristine marble floors of the skyline penthouse.

The war was over. The nursery was safe. And the Moretti dynasty remained entirely untouchable.
