Chapter 9 - The Poisoned Route and the Trap for the Architect

The digital message glowing on the monitor inside the shipping container wasn't a threat—it was a signature.

The Architect knew we were coming. He had anticipated the hostage rescue down to the exact second, using the textile warehouse as a sacrificial lamb to buy time for his primary operation.

And that primary operation was happening today. At 2:00 PM.

The central bullion transport convoy moving fifty million dollars in gold bars and unwashed bearer bonds across Route 14 through the Mojave Desert.

I stared at the glowing text on the monitor, a slow, predatory smile spreading across my lips.

"You think you're playing chess with me, Architect?" I muttered to the empty container, tapping my comms unit.

"Marco, status on Emily Vance?"

"Secure in the lead Escalade, Boss," Marco's voice came back instantly.

"Paramedic checked her out—minor dehydration and shock, but no physical trauma. She's heading back to the Beverly Hills estate right now to reunite with her father."

"Good," I replied, turning away from the monitor and walking out of the bunker toward the surface.

"Now, let's talk about tomorrow afternoon's bullion transport."

"Listening, Boss," Marco said.

"We aren't going to reroute the convoy," I stated coldly, stepping out into the crisp morning sunlight of the industrial yard.

"We are going to let Architect think he has successfully compromised our encrypted radio frequencies. We are going to feed him the exact convoy route straight into his trap."

A pause crackled over the comms feed before Marco’s voice returned with sharp, razor-sharp understanding.

"A poisoned route. We let his ambush walk straight into our killing field in the Mojave."

"Exactly," I said, sliding into the back seat of the Escalade as our convoy prepared to roll back toward the estate.

"He wants a high-stakes war for the Moretti empire? I'm going to give him a slaughterhouse."
