Chapter 5 - The Midnight Meeting in the War Room

The war room on the top floor of the Moretti estate was a stark, windowless sanctum dominated by a massive twelve-foot tactical map table glowing with live satellite feeds of Los Angeles and the surrounding desert highways.

The digital clock on the eastern wall read 3:15 AM.

Surrounding the tactical table were my four most trusted captains—hardened men who had bled for the Moretti name through cartel wars, federal indictments, and bloody corporate takeovers.

"Let's recap what we know," I stated, standing at the head of the table, resting my hands flat against the glowing glass surface.

"Thomas Vance compromised the nursery wing under direct extortion because his daughter was taken by an operative known only as The Architect."

"That same operative has orchestrated an ambush on tomorrow's bullion transport convoy," Marco added, tapping a digital marker on the glowing map representing Route 14 through the Mojave Desert.

"Fifty million in gold and bearer bonds. If they hit that convoy while our comms are jammed, our financial liquidity drops by thirty percent overnight."

"Which is exactly what The Architect wants," I said, my jaw tightening.

"He isn't just trying to rob us. He’s trying to bankrupt the syndicate, trigger a panic among our regional lieutenants, and leave us completely vulnerable to a hostile takeover by the rival Petrov syndicate."

"Have we located Thomas's daughter?" asked Vincent, my chief intelligence officer, a veteran ex-Mossad operative with ice-water running through his veins.

"Cyber unit traced the burner app IP address used to extort Thomas," Marco answered, sliding a digital dossier across the table toward Vincent.

"An abandoned textile warehouse on the industrial outskirts of downtown L.A. Guarded by at least six foreign mercenaries equipped with thermal scopes and encrypted comms."

Vincent opened the dossier, his sharp eyes scanning the architectural blueprint of the textile warehouse with quiet calculation.

"Six mercs," Vincent murmured. "A standard vanguard unit. They're using the kid as bait to draw us into a urban kill-zone."

"We don't have a choice," I stated firmly, standing up straight and adjusting the cuffs of my black dress shirt.

"We rescue Thomas's daughter first. Once the hostage is secure, we feed The Architect a poisoned route for tomorrow's bullion transport and let his ambush walk straight into our own firing line."

Silence descended upon the war room as my captains absorbed the tactical directive. No objections. No hesitation. Just the cold, unwavering loyalty of men who knew how to wage war.

"Assemble the tactical strike team," I commanded, walking toward the armory doors at the back of the war room.
