Chapter 10 - Ultimate Reckoning and True Belonging

Norah stepped gracefully around Luca, her heels clicking softly against the hardwood floor as she approached her trembling ex-husband.

Sebastian’s eyes bulged with pure terror as he stared up at the woman he had spent five years mentally breaking down and humiliating.

"Put him down, Luca," Norah instructed quietly, her voice steady and empowered.

Luca loosened his grip just enough for Sebastian’s feet to touch the floor, though the security guards kept their ironclad holds on his arms.

Sebastian slumped forward, coughing violently and gasping for air as he clutched his bruised throat.

Norah stopped just inches away from him, looking down with an expression of profound pity rather than anger.

"You always told me I was a failure who could never survive without you, Sebastian," Norah said, her voice echoing clearly across the silent ballroom.

"You believed that keeping me small and broken was the only way you could feel like a man."

Sebastian trembled violently, unable to meet her piercing gaze as the crushing weight of his colossal mistake finally crushed his ego.

"Look around this room, Sebastian," Norah continued, gesturing gracefully toward the gathering of elite executives, judges, and billionaires.

"I didn't steal a single penny to get here; I earned my position through my own intelligence, while you remained a bitter, small-minded failure."

Norah reached into her sleek evening clutch, pulling out a crisp, official document enclosed in a navy blue folder.

"This is the expedited divorce decree, fully signed, sealed, and executed under New York State law as of three hours ago," Norah stated calmly.

"You have no legal claim to me, no claim to my career, and no place in my life."

Norah dropped the legal folder onto the floor right at Sebastian’s feet with a sharp, definitive slap.

"Take it and get out of my sight before my husband changes his mind about the harbor," Norah concluded coldly.

Sebastian didn't hesitate for another second; he snatched the folder off the floor, scrambled backward on his hands and knees, and bolted out the ballroom doors like a whipped dog.

A wave of polite, thunderous applause rippled through the high-society crowd, acknowledging Norah’s absolute grace and dominance under pressure.

Luca wrapped his arm firmly around Norah’s waist, pulling her close against his chest as a warm, genuine smile broke across his stern face.

"You handled that with absolute perfection," Luca murmured, pressing a soft kiss against the top of her dark hair.

Later that evening, after the gala concluded and the glittering lights of Manhattan twinkled outside their penthouse windows, Norah stood on the private balcony.

Little Leo was fast asleep in his nursery down the hall, safe and deeply loved.

Luca walked up behind her, holding a crystal glass of aged wine, and gently slid his arms around her waist.

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a second matching sapphire pendant, sliding it onto a delicate platinum chain around her neck.

"You belong in this house, Norah," Luca whispered, his voice thick with unreserved emotion.

"Not as a practical arrangement, and not as a temporary guest, but as my true partner and queen."

Norah turned around in his embrace, resting her hands against his chest and smiling up into his dark, devoted eyes.
