Chapter 3 - The Gatekeeper’s Secret and the Encrypted Warning

The autumn wind whipped violently across the jagged coastline of Long Island as the black corporate shuttle halted at the wrought-iron security gates of Cave Point.

Towering stone pillars engraved with the Castellano crest flanked the entrance, guarded by two heavily armed sentries in dark tactical gear.

Vanessa Thorne stepped out of the lead vehicle with an air of arrogant entitlement, smoothing down her designer wool coat.

She strutted up to the biometric scanner beside the gatehouse and confidently pressed her personal employee badge against the glass reader.

For three agonizing seconds, the LED screen remained dead.

Then, a harsh, crimson light flashed across the display, accompanied by a sharp, automated rejection tone.

The guards immediately rested their hands on their holstered sidearms, their eyes narrowing with dangerous suspicion.

Vanessa flushed with public humiliation, her carefully constructed composure cracking under the weight of her colleagues' stares.

"There must be a glitch in the system," Vanessa snapped, tapping the screen angrily before turning back to her mother’s assistant.

Margaret Thorne’s personal assistant, scurrying nervously behind her, fumbled through a leather folio and pulled out a pristine, unlabelled white plastic access card.

"Mrs. Thorne prepared for this contingency," the assistant whispered frantically, handing the card over to Vanessa.

Vanessa snatched the card from the assistant’s trembling fingers and pressed it against the scanner panel.

This time, the sensor blinked a bright, steady emerald green, and the heavy iron gates groaned open.

Norah stood a few feet away, her heart hammering against her ribs, as she committed every single detail of the transaction to memory.

Discreetly pulling her smartphone from her coat pocket, Norah angled the camera and snapped a high-resolution photograph of the white access card’s serial number as Vanessa slipped it into her designer handbag.

Without wasting a second, Norah typed out a rapid, encrypted text message and sent it directly to Luca’s secure terminal.

"Card used. I have proof. Keep dinner schedule. Do not come early," she wrote, her fingers trembling slightly.

Within seconds, Luca’s concise reply materialized on her screen: "Understood."

Norah locked her phone and slipped it back into her pocket, maintaining an expression of absolute, serene calm.

She knew that crossing the threshold of Cave Point with these women was a dangerous game of high-stakes chess.

Every step she took inside the sprawling estate brought her closer to exposing the corrupt network operating within Meridian Capital.

She walked through the iron gates right behind Vanessa, unaware that the trap was about to snap shut on all of them.
