Chapter 7 - The Mother’s Betrayal and Corporate Collapse

Margaret Thorne realized in that single, crushing moment that all her decades of corporate ladder-climbing were about to vanish into ash.
She desperately tried to salvage the situation by shifting the blame entirely onto her cowering daughter.
"Mr. Castellano, whatever data was accessed was done entirely without my knowledge or consent," Margaret blurted out, her voice cracking with panic.
"Vanessa acted out of foolish ambition and personal spite, completely abusing the administrative privileges I granted her out of maternal weakness."
Vanessa whipped her head around to stare at her mother in utter disbelief and absolute betrayal.
"Mother, you are the one who told me to find out how the Castellano syndicate moves its international cargo!" Vanessa shrieked, tears of rage springing to her eyes.
"You said getting this information would secure our family’s seat on the executive board for the next decade!"
Luca raised a single hand, silencing the hysterical mother-and-daughter shouting match with a chilling glare.
"Your internal squabbles are entirely irrelevant to me," Luca stated, stepping forward until his imposing shadow fell over both women.
"You both stepped foot onto my property uninvited, stole proprietary data, and physically assaulted my wife."
Margaret collapsed into a nearby sofa, burying her face in her hands as the terrifying reality of her position finally set in.
She knew that crossing Luca Castellano meant no federal agency, high-powered lawyer, or corrupt politician would ever dare lift a finger to save her.
Norah stepped closer, tapping her tablet to pull up a secondary set of corporate financial records she had compiled during her audits.
"While investigating these security breaches, I also uncovered systematic embezzlement within Vanessa’s asset management division," Norah revealed calmly.
"Inflated consulting fees, ghost contractors, and unauthorized bonuses totaling over two million dollars over the past two years."
Vanessa’s jaw dropped open, her face turning chalk-white as she realized Norah had completely dismantled her entire professional empire in a single afternoon.
"You embezzled corporate funds to finance your luxury lifestyle while mocking me for having thirty-six dollars in my bank account," Norah said quietly.
Luca looked down at Norah with an expression of profound, burning respect and affection that softened his hardened features.
"Elena," Luca commanded, turning his attention to the terrified subordinate still holding the access card.
"Transmit all of these audit files directly to the federal prosecutor’s office and the Meridian Capital board of directors."
Within minutes, the sounds of approaching sirens echoed faintly from the winding coastal road outside the Cave Point estate.
Two federal marshals accompanied by local law enforcement walked into the grand library, their badges gleaming under the crystal chandeliers.
Luca gestured toward Margaret and Vanessa with a casual flick of his wrist.
"Take them away," Luca instructed the officers, his voice devoid of any mercy.
"Ensure they remain behind bars pending a full investigation into corporate espionage, grand larceny, and trespassing."

As the officers slapped heavy steel cuffs onto Vanessa’s wrists, she shot Norah one final look of venomous, impotent hatred.
Norah met her gaze without flinching, standing tall and unshakeable at Luca’s side.
