Chapter 9 - The Grand Gala Showdown

The annual Meridian Capital charity gala at the Plaza Hotel was the most exclusive social event of the Manhattan autumn season.
Crystal chandeliers cast a warm, golden glow over hundreds of elite bankers, politicians, and high-society socialites mingling in the grand ballroom.
Norah descended the sweeping staircase wearing a breathtaking, floor-length midnight-blue silk gown that hugged her voluptuous curves with effortless elegance.
Around her wrist gleamed the repaired antique platinum bracelet encrusted with brilliant blue sapphires, catching the light with every subtle movement.
Luca walked beside her, his arm protectively supporting her waist, his presence commanding instant, respectful silence from the surrounding crowd.
Norah no longer felt like the broken, exhausted woman who had fled an abusive marriage with a single duffel bag six weeks ago.
She moved with the confidence of a woman who had reclaimed her career, her dignity, and her rightful place at the pinnacle of New York society.
Suddenly, the heavy double doors at the entrance of the ballroom burst open, disrupting the soft murmur of classical string music.
A disheveled, frantic-looking man pushed his way past the private security guards stationed at the door, stumbling into the center of the ballroom.
It was Sebastian, his suit rumpled, his hair unkempt, and his eyes wild with desperate fury.
He had managed to slip past the perimeter security by tailing a catering crew, driven entirely by his delusional desire for money and revenge.
Gasps echoed through the ballroom as high-society guests stepped back in disgust, shielding their champagne glasses from the intruder.
Sebastian’s eyes locked onto Norah standing beside Luca near the center of the raised dais.
"Norah!" Sebastian screamed across the silent ballroom, pointing a shaky finger directly at her.
"You think you can play the elegant lady with this criminal, but you’re nothing more than a cheating, penniless parasite who stole my life!"
The entire room froze in stunned horror, murmurs of shock rippling through the crowd of elite executives and investors.
Norah’s expression remained completely calm, devoid of fear or embarrassment, as she looked down at her pathetic ex-husband.
Sebastian took three aggressive steps forward, emboldened by the silent shock of the guests around him.
"You owe me half of everything you’ve got, and you’re going to sign the divorce papers right now or I will ruin your reputation in the press!" Sebastian yelled, his face red with rage.
Before Sebastian could take another step, Luca Castellano stepped smoothly in front of Norah, his face a mask of absolute, frozen ice.
The two security operatives who had dragged Sebastian from the Meridian Capital lobby emerged from the shadows behind him, blocking any possible escape route.
"You have exactly three seconds to turn around and walk out of this room," Luca whispered, his voice carrying an acoustic menace that silenced the entire hall.
Sebastian scoffed nervously, trying to maintain his false bravado in front of the watching crowd.
"Don't try to scare me with your mafia nonsense," Sebastian sneered, pointing a finger at Luca’s chest.
"She’s my legal wife, and the law says—"
Luca didn't let him finish the sentence.
With terrifying speed, Luca closed the distance between them, grabbed Sebastian by the collar of his cheap suit, and lifted him effortlessly off the floor.
Sebastian’s face turned purple as he choked for air, his legs kicking uselessly in the empty space above the polished hardwood floor.
"You abandoned her when she had nothing," Luca said softly, his voice dangerously low and resonant.
"You mocked her intelligence, stole her savings, and dared to raise your voice in her presence."
May you like
Luca turned his head slightly, looking back toward Norah with an expression of unwavering devotion.
"Do you want to handle this trash yourself, my love, or shall I feed him to the harbor fish before midnight?"
