Chapter 14 - Blood, Loyalty, and Absolute Protection

The sun began to dip below the Chicago skyline, casting long, bruised shadows across the sprawling Moretti estate.
Inside the private medical suite on the third floor, my father—Thomas Bennett—sat in a comfortable leather armchair, looking around the sterile, high-end room in utter bewilderment.
He wore a clean wool sweater, his silver hair neatly combed, though the chronic wear of illness still etched lines around his tired eyes.
He had been safely transported from his modest apartment to the estate’s secure medical wing within an hour of Luca’s command.
The door swung open, and Luca stepped inside, followed closely by Dr. Harris carrying a portable medical monitor.
“Mr. Bennett,” Luca greeted respectfully, extending his hand toward the older man.
My father looked up in astonishment, recognizing the billionaire mafia heir instantly from financial news broadcasts.
“Mr. Moretti... I don't understand why I am here,” my father stammered, attempting to stand up from his chair.
“Please, sit down, Thomas,” Luca insisted gently, resting a steady hand on my father's shoulder.
“Your daughter has told you nothing?” Luca asked, glancing briefly at me.
“She only said security brought us here for our own safety,” my father replied, looking confused.
Luca pulled up a chair and sat directly across from him, resting his elbows on his knees.
“Twenty-five years ago, you saved my family from financial ruin at great personal peril,” Luca began, his voice filled with unwavering sincerity.
“My father promised a debt that was never fully repaid because corrupt enemies forced you into hiding.”
My father’s breath hitched, his eyes widening as memories of the past rushed back.
“You... you know about the audit?” my father whispered.
“I know everything, Thomas,” Luca confirmed softly.
“And tonight, that debt is finally settled.”
Luca signaled to Dr. Harris, who immediately stepped forward to plug in advanced diagnostic equipment.
“Starting tonight, a specialized medical team will oversee your pulmonary treatments right here in this suite,” Luca announced firmly.
“No more unpaid heating bills, no more struggling for prescriptions, and no more hiding from ghosts.”
Tears filled my father’s eyes, his trembling hands covering his face as decades of heavy burdens finally lifted off his shoulders.
I rushed forward, dropping to my knees beside his chair and wrapping my arms tightly around his waist, weeping tears of pure relief.
“Thank you, Mr. Moretti... God bless you,” my father choked out, his voice thick with emotion.
Luca stood quietly above us, his hand resting gently on my shoulder for a brief, reassuring moment.

“Rest tonight, Thomas,” Luca instructed softly, turning toward the door.
“Tomorrow, we ensure justice is served permanently.”
