Chapter 15 - The Conservatory Bloom Under the Moonlight

Three weeks later, the Chicago autumn had turned into a crisp, clear winter night.
The Moretti estate was bathed in a peaceful, serene silence, completely purged of the scandals and corruption that had poisoned its walls for years.
Vanessa Bellini’s offshore accounts had been entirely frozen by federal regulators, her corporate shell companies dismantled, and her name permanently erased from high society circles.
Marcus and Robert Vance faced federal indictments for financial fraud and conspiracy.
Rosa Alvarez lived comfortably in the main guest wing, tending to her beloved garden with a joyful heart.
My father’s health had improved dramatically under the constant care of Dr. Harris, his laughter echoing through the hallways once again.
And I no longer worked as a maid scrubbing floors or hiding a swollen cheekbone behind my hair.
I stood inside the grand conservatory, the warm, humid air smelling sweetly of blooming lemon trees and white roses.
Soft moonlight poured downward through the vaulted glass ceiling, casting delicate silver patterns across the tiled floor where the terracotta pot had once been shattered.
Footsteps crunched softly on the gravel pathway behind me.
I didn't need to turn around to know who it was.
Luca Moretti stepped up beside me, his tall frame clad in a dark wool coat, his gray eyes reflecting the gentle moonlight.
“You’re out here in the cold without a shawl, Julia,” Luca noted softly, his voice carrying a familiar warmth.
“It’s not cold in here, Mr. Moretti... it’s peaceful,” I replied, looking up at the glass roof.
Luca stepped closer, his shoulder brushing against mine as he gazed out toward the distant garden lights.
“The archives are fully organized, the past has been buried, and your father is finally safe,” Luca murmured thoughtfully.
“What happens now, Julia?”
I turned my face toward him, meeting his steady, intense gaze without hesitation, my hair neatly pinned back, revealing no fear, no bruises, and no lies.
“Now... we build a future that isn't built on secrets,” I answered softly.
Luca smiled—a rare, genuine, breathtaking smile that reached his eyes.

He reached out, taking my hand in his calloused palm, his fingers locking securely around mine.
“Then let us build it together, Julia,” Luca whispered, pulling me gently against his side as the moonlight wrapped around us in a silent, eternal promise.
