Chapter 10 - The Unraveling of Vanessa Bellini

The morning sunlight streamed through the tall arched windows of the dining hall, illuminating the dust motes dancing in the tense air between them.

Vanessa stood amidst the wreckage of her fallen chair, her chest heaving as she realized that every avenue of escape had been systematically sealed off.

"You're listening to servants and common peasants over your own future wife?" she cried out, her voice cracking with hysterical desperation as she tried one last frantic gamble.

"After everything I've planned for this family—after all the social standing I bring to the Moretti name—you're going to throw it all away over a mangy, flea-ridden old dog?"

Luca slowly rose to his feet, towering over her with an intimidating physical presence that made her take an involuntary step backward.

"Bruno belonged to my mother," Luca said, his voice ringing with absolute, unyielding finality.

"He guarded this estate when my family had nothing, and he has lived under this roof with more honor, loyalty, and dignity than you have ever shown in your entire life."

Vanessa’s mask of aristocratic elegance finally dissolved completely, revealing the cold, calculating opportunist underneath.

"You can't do this to me!" she snarled, her face twisting into an ugly grimace of pure malice.

"Our wedding invitations have already gone out to every elite family in Chicago! The political alliances are locked in! If you cancel this wedding now, your reputation—and your business empire—will be dragged through the mud!"

"Let me worry about my reputation," Luca replied calmly, pulling his encrypted phone from his pocket.

"And as for our business alliances, I believe my security team has already delivered a very interesting package to your father’s corporate office this morning."

Vanessa froze, her eyes widening in sheer horror.

"What... what did you send him?"

"Everything," Luca answered smoothly, tapping the screen of his phone.

"From the forged county surrender documents and the veterinarian's medical warnings, all the way back to the financial records and suspicious insurance payouts surrounding your previous engagement in New York three years ago."

Color completely vanished from Vanessa’s face, leaving her looking ghostly and defeated.

"You... you investigated me?" she whispered, her knees trembling beneath her silk robe.

"I always vet the people who enter my home, Vanessa," Luca said coldly.

"I simply gave you enough rope to hang yourself."

At that exact moment, the heavy oak doors swung open, and Daniel stepped into the room accompanied by two large security guards in dark suits.

"The vehicle is waiting outside, boss," Daniel reported briskly, avoiding looking at the frantic woman.

"And Miss Bellini's personal luggage has already been packed and loaded into the trunk."

Luca slipped his phone back into his pocket and turned toward the arched doorway, leaving Vanessa standing alone among the wreckage of her shattered ambitions.

"Get her off my property before I lose my patience," Luca commanded without looking back.

"And if she ever attempts to step foot within ten miles of this estate again, ensure the local authorities are waiting with an arrest warrant for forgery and animal cruelty."

"No! Luca, you can't do this! Luca!" Vanessa screamed, lunging forward, but the two security guards intercepted her instantly, firmly escorting her out of the grand dining hall as her frantic protests faded down the long marble corridor.

The massive doors clicked shut, plunging the dining room back into a heavy, profound silence.

Luca stood alone by the window, watching the black sedan pull away down the long driveway and out through the iron gates for the very last time.

He let out a long, slow breath, feeling the oppressive weight of a poisoned chapter in his life finally lift away.

A few minutes later, the door creaked open again, and I stepped hesitantly into the dining hall, holding a fresh silver tray with a cup of hot black coffee.

"Mr. Moretti?" I asked softly, keeping my distance near the doorway.

Luca turned around, his dark eyes softening as they rested on my bandaged shoulder.

"Are you alright, Emma?" he asked, his voice losing its harsh edge.

"Yes, sir," I nodded, stepping forward to place the coffee cup on the corner of the table.

"And... how is Bruno?"

A faint, genuine smile touched the corners of Luca’s mouth—the first real smile I had ever seen on his face since I started working at the estate.

"Dr. Patterson says he's resting comfortably in the private clinic, eating boiled chicken, and already complaining about the lack of attention," Luca replied quietly.

"He'll be back by the fireplace in a few days."

My eyes welled up with tears of pure relief, and a soft, trembling smile broke across my face.

"Thank God," I whispered.

Luca stepped closer, looking down at me with an expression of deep, quiet respect.

"Emma," he said gently.

"You risked your job, your safety, and your livelihood to protect my mother's dog yesterday."

"I couldn't just stand by and watch them take him, sir," I replied honestly.

Luca reached out, gently placing a hand on my uninjured shoulder with a warmth that completely disarmed me.

"You are no longer a junior domestic staff member starting tomorrow," Luca instructed firmly.

"I am appointing you as the head estate coordinator of animal welfare and legacy preservation, with a salary that will cover your mother's hospital bills in full, starting today."

My breath caught in my throat, the tears finally spilling over my eyelashes as the crushing burden of poverty and fear that had weighed on my shoulders for months simply melted away.

"Thank you, Mr. Moretti," I choked out, unable to find any other words.

"Thank you, Emma," Luca replied, looking out the grand window toward the sunlit gardens.

"Welcome home."CHAPTER 11 — The Collapse of the Bellini Dynasty and the Ghost from New York

The morning air outside the Moretti estate was crisp and laden with the scent of damp autumn leaves.

Inside the private executive office on the third floor, Luca Moretti sat behind a massive mahogany desk reviewing a dense file of financial records.

The digital tablet before him displayed confidential banking statements, police reports, and coroner archives originating from New York City.

The documents detailed the tragic, untimely death of Richard Sterling, a wealthy shipping heir and Vanessa Bellini's former fiancé who had drowned under mysterious circumstances three years prior.

A soft knock echoed against the heavy oak door before Daniel stepped into the room, holding a secure encrypted phone.

"Boss, Senator Bellini is downstairs in the lobby," Daniel reported, his voice tight with controlled professional tension.

"He arrived unannounced demanding an immediate audience with you regarding Vanessa's abrupt removal from the estate."

Luca did not look up from the tablet, his dark eyes scanning a highlighted paragraph concerning a suspicious life insurance policy transfer signed days before the fatal boating accident.

"Let him up," Luca replied coldly.

"And make sure security remains stationed outside the door."

Five minutes later, Senator Arthur Bellini stormed into the office, his expensive tailored suit slightly rumpled and his face flushed with righteous fury.

"What the hell is the meaning of this, Luca?" Arthur shouted, slamming his briefcase onto the edge of the desk.

"My daughter called me in tears claiming you had her physically thrown off your property like a common criminal over some trivial dispute about a dog!"

Luca slowly leaned back in his leather chair, interlocking his fingers over his chest as he fixed the older man with an icy, unblinking stare.

"Your daughter did not just dispute over a dog, Arthur," Luca said, his voice dropping into a dangerously quiet register.

"She committed forgery, federal document falsification, and malicious animal cruelty by attempting to have my late mother's fourteen-year-old golden retriever euthanized under a false name."

Arthur blinked, momentarily taken aback before quickly regaining his aggressive posture.

"Even if that exaggerated nonsense were true, it's a minor domestic disagreement between a couple preparing for marriage!" Arthur argued, waving a hand dismissively.

"You cannot publicly humiliate my family name without destroying the political coalition we spent two years building!"

Luca reached across the desk and slid the New York coroner's file forward until it rested directly beneath the senator's trembling hands.

"Let's talk about family names, Arthur," Luca murmured smoothly.

"Let's talk about Richard Sterling's fatal boating accident in the Hamptons three years ago."

Arthur’s face instantly drained of all color, his mouth opening and closing as if he had suddenly forgotten how to breathe.

"Where... where did you get this file?" Arthur whispered, staring down at the embossed federal seal.

"When someone tries to murder an innocent animal in my home, I make it my business to investigate everything about them," Luca replied, standing up to tower over the older man.

"And it turns out Vanessa has a very expensive habit of eliminating anything—or anyone—that stands in the way of her inheriting property and social status."

Arthur gripped the edge of the desk for support, his fierce bravado completely shattered in an instant.

"Luca... please," Arthur pleaded, his voice breaking into a hoarse whisper.

"If this file goes public, our entire political dynasty is finished."

May you like

"Your dynasty was built on lies and blood, Arthur," Luca said coldly, turning his back toward the window.

"Take your daughter, pack her belongings from her city penthouse, and leave Chicago by nightfall, or I will personally hand these files to the federal prosecutor before breakfast."
