Chapter 8 - The Chemical Countermeasure and the Ultimatum

Emerging from the hidden tunnel system, the trio stepped out into the crisp, rain-washed air of the estate’s private carriage house.
A sleek black armored SUV sat parked inside the garage bay, its engine idling quietly.
Matteo sprinted to the driver’s side and popped the armored doors open.
“The vehicle is prepped and fully fueled,” Matteo reported, checking the dashboard monitors.
“We can break through the outer gates and reach the safe house in the city within twenty minutes.”
Luca looked down at Claire, who was wiping a smudge of soot from her cheek.
“We aren’t going to a safe house,” Luca said coldly.
Matteo stopped, turning around in surprise.
“Boss, Marco has a small army occupying the main residence.”
“If we go back out there without reinforcements, we’ll be walking into an ambush.”
“We aren’t walking into an ambush,” Luca corrected, his dark eyes burning with ruthless vengeance.
“We’re going straight to Marco’s private shipping warehouse at the harbor.”
“That’s where he coordinates his syndicate operations and stores his liquid assets.”
“If we hit him where his empire bleeds, he’ll have to pull his mercenaries back from Blackthorn House to protect his money.”
Claire nodded in complete agreement.
“It’s a brilliant tactical move,” Claire noted.
“Cut off the head of the financial snake, and the body collapses instantly.”
“And my medical kit is in the back of this SUV,” Claire added with a faint, confident smile.
“So wherever you go, I go.”
Luca stared at her for a long moment, a deep, resonant warmth breaking through the chilling aura of the syndicate boss.
“You are the most dangerous woman I have ever met, Claire Bennett,” Luca murmured.
“Get in the car.”

The armored SUV roared to life, tearing through the rolling estate gates and racing down the winding coastal highway toward the docks.
The final reckoning against Marco Moretti had officially begun.
