Chapter V: A New Beginning

One month later.
The heavy garnet-wood doors of the Vance estate opened once more, not to welcome the tycoon home, but to allow the remaining servants to pack their belongings and leave. The mansion that was once a symbol of ultimate wealth now stood cold, desolate, and permanently sealed by legal authorities. Rumor had it that on stormy nights, passersby could still hear a melancholy piano melody drifting from the attic, and see the silhouette of a noble woman standing on the mezzanine balcony, looking down into the empty foyer.
But none of that mattered to Lily anymore.
In a peaceful coastal town to the south, far removed from the noise and horrific memories of the city, stood a small house painted in white, boasting a garden blooming with sunflowers. The rhythmic sound of the ocean waves replaced the eerie noises of the old Gothic mansion.
Elena stood on the porch, holding two glasses of warm milk, smiling as she watched Lily. The ten-year-old girl was now rosy-cheeked and radiant, deeply absorbed in painting a coastal landscape on a small canvas. Miraculously, Lily’s sleepwalking syndrome had never manifested again since that fateful night recorded in the video file. It was as if facing the truth and experiencing her father's final act of love had ultimately severed the invisible shackles of her past.
Lily looked up, taking the milk from Elena, her clear eyes sparkling in the sunlight:
"Elena, I painted Mommy today... but I didn't paint her in the black evening gown anymore. I painted her in white, smiling at me and Daddy on the beach."
Elena sat down beside her, gently stroking the girl's hair:
May you like
"It's beautiful, Lily. Your mother and father are surely somewhere far away, smiling to see you happy."
The sea breeze blew past, carrying the briny scent of the ocean and the fragrance of the grass, sweeping away the final dust of a family that was once illustrious but consumed by tragedy. The darkness of the Vance family had drawn to a close, and upon the soil of redemption, a new life had truly blossomed under the sun.
